We grind ‘n’ grit. We fail and prevail. We lift each other up, and we fly. 🦅
During this last race in Sacramento, my friend @emilee.kate
, who was a few feet behind me, wouldn’t pass me after I rolled my ankle and slowed down a little. “C’mon, you’ve got this,” she said, as my sprint turned into a limpy jog. “You’ve got to go get her,” I replied, as I saw the new girl, who took it out hard, start to pull away. But Emille wouldn’t pass me. She stayed a half-step behind, encouraging me along for a minute or two, until my ankle felt stronger and I could run hard again. “Let’s go!” I said, as we chased down the person in first, finishing strong, in the top two spots.
I love a good, strong push from a tough competitor, don’t get me wrong, but there’s something beautiful about my @humanoctane
teammate seeing me vulnerable, (both with an acutely bum ankle, but also as a new mom working to get back to her previous performance level), and choosing to encourage me rather than pass me, that warms my heart. ❤️
At some point many years from now, when I look back on the years in my racing prime, I’ll remember less the wins and the glory and more the people who made it magical. 😊
