Teaching the HS kids speed work. The first step to get fast is to learn proper mechanics. Leaning and falling, foot strike, and recovery/pulling leg are some of the main factors we address. If you missed yesterday’s video and are experiencing some immediate, acute pain in the heel or bottom of the foot... check it out! Calming the body, taking pressure off the inflamed area, and allowing the body to feel safe is essential before moving forward. Once you’re body is feeling safe... stretch it out! Why stretching first? It places LOAD in the effected area with much less tension or strain than working it out! Is plantar fasciitis a muscle issue? No. Is it that your fascia is locked up and you need to break it up?! No! But, it has been linked to inflammation to the tissue at the bottom of the heel, into the fascia and ligament. Inflammation does NOT just build up over night. Something from your stiffness to your body mechanics overtime has built up to cause this pain. So after we address the pain, we must address the issue. First time I stepped on it I just remember saying what a huge foot pump I got since it works the feet and ankles a lot as it gives resistance down and up as you step on it like an upgraded deep sand run. Any respectable strength and conditioning coach understands how important strong feet and ankles are for preventing hip knee lower back issues and this is a great tool for that. I have fully recovered from @runbarbados Marathon Weekend so I couldn't help myself but to see if I have any speed in these legs. I cranked the treadmill up to top speed to see how long I could maintain the pace. I call it load, lock and hold. In a race I load the level, lock on to a pace and hold for as long as possible. If you struggle with knee pain while walking or running and have had limited success in finding sustainable solutions...get to a @functionalpatterns Practitoner ASAP!! Let me give you a little summary: Both videos were done at the same walking speed. Focus on the right knee in the first video and you can clearly see the instability (Lateral Shift), which was causing a lot of pain! Looking at the after video there is much more stability, and most importantly, zero pain when walking 😀 What was done to achieve this result? - Myofascial release and self treatment techniques. - Functional Patterns Core and Glute training. - Training muscles in chains/slings as all isolated exercises did not yield any results whatsoever. - Application from the client...this part is vital folks! I used to want to run a mile when people presented with knee pain, especially when looking at this before video, but now I relish the challenge! What to look for in the videos, other than the knee instability and the obvious improvements there. - Improved stability in the hips. - Less side to side motion as he walks. - Some thoracic rotation, which is indicative of muscles working as functional slings. - A more stable and connected structure in general. #Distance #Runners may experience less ground reaction #forces within a single stance phase (2-3x BM) when compared to their #sprinting counterparts (3-5x BM), but the frequency of footfalls is much higher. As such the #Clean Grip Countermovement Shrug is a valuable tool that not only allows the athlete to #concentrically produce and transfer rapid #force into the ground (#power ), but permits the athlete to develop and master #eccentric #stabilization against loads above and beyond body mass. Cue the athlete to: ✅ Maintain a “stacked and tall” posture while initiating the descent; ✅ Swiftly drop the hips straight down into a depth that is approximate to “sitting on a barstool” ✅ Aggressively drive upward through a full-foot, punctuating the movement with a meaningful shrug coinciding with plantarflexion; ✅ Control the descent by staying “poised”, so as to not let the barbell yank the shoulders down or whip the torso forward. ✅ Lastly, the #barbell should begin and end at the same spot on the upper thigh #pocket #height . Speed Training:🔊Speed has sound! Wind tunnel affect. Acceleration practice.🔥🔥🔥 Sprinters: Ade Adewale in Black, Andy Robertson in Orange, Dwain Chambers in Blue. Justin, Eniola, Jordan, Kyron, Virghyl, Erol. The first 10 metres are crucial. To improve speed, full recovery is required between reps. If you don't give athletes the appropriate amount of rest for each individual, then athletes will just accumulate fatigue. Maximal Velocity / Speed qualities will not be trained. It becomes speed endurance or repeated intervals. To keep the speed, power and quality high, full recovery is needed. Using radar timing equipment, allows you to see speed over segments, I.e 5-10-15-20-30 metres, this means you can really focus on over a 100 metres the areas that need work on or the slower sections. Also you can see which sections athletes pick up speed, transitioning into max velocity. Speed must be at least 95/6% of comp speed, anything below that is not high enough to train max speed qualities. Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) series continued. * 🤽‍♂️ active chest opening exercises 🤽‍♂️ * We’re still talking about posture and how it relates to TOS and many other ailments that I see in the clinic daily. * In previous post we went over ways to strengthen the external rotators of your upper arm. Now we are going to go over very specific exercises that open your chest. We all know the door way pec stretch, but let’s spice it up a bit! ⬇️ * 1️⃣ face down KB hovers: (front page) this exercise forces you to squeeze your shoulder blades together causing a reflexive relaxation of the chest muscles. This phenomenon is called reciprocal inhibition. * 2️⃣ slowly resisted chest fly negative: this exercise forces you to bring increased tension to your chest muscle as it lengthens. This is great for increasing control in the open chest position. * 3️⃣ eccentric to isometric wide push up: this exercise is definitely higher level because it requires increased shoulder control. Like the previous exercise this increases control in the open chest position. * Remember static stretching 🙆🏼‍♂️ is great 👍🏿, but the effects usually don’t last without gaining control into that new range of motion. * Did you find this helpful?
