Happy #nationalfitnessday Rosa went to school dressed as a marathon-running ballerina today. We might have been more inventive with a bit more notice but there you go (panic emptying of the fancy dress box “there must be some sweatbands in here somewhere!!!”). The blood drained from her dad’s face as she started saying a few months ago that girls aren’t allowed to play sport. No idea where that came from but since then there has been A LOT of talk about all the sports they will learn and how fun they will be. We even went to the Women’s Hockey World Cup for inspiration. Running, scooting, climbing and swimming are pretty good for now. Now I need to get back into regular exercise beyond running around, things flying everywhere, desperately not trying to be late for everything! I’m feeling inspired. This is a photo of some very impressive runners in Malawi. Strong, fit and very cool.

The rate of oxidation or the burning of calories is different for fat, carbohydrate, and protein. The food you eat can either be burned to liberate energy, converted into body weight, or be excreted. If you light a candle and then place a dome over the candle, cutting off the fire’s source of oxygen, the fire will go out. In the same way the body’s ability to undergo oxidation is contingent on oxygen. If the body is getting more oxygen, it should be burning more calories. A lot of the foods being produced, processed is what am talking about here, has been tampered with, compromised. This is why even your doctors cant solve your issues, because they are behind on information. The level of chemical use far exceeds what they have learnt years ago and a lot of them don't stay current with new findings. So instead the drug they give you help to promote the body getting the oxygen it needs, its actually making you worse by restricting it. The process food industry is not your friend, its a money making business, for them your health comes last. MONITORING YOUR METABOLISM.... Until recently, there were no affordable and easy-to-use home testing methods that were designed for athletes to measure key metabolic parameters. Measuring the state of nitrogen metabolism allows you to determine whether protein intake is sufficient and also whether certain supplements are being ingested in amounts that are sufficient for improving nitrogen balance. Currently on the horizon is a newly developed testing device that combines nitrogen balance testing with fat metabolism status. These tests measure the output of metabolic waste products in urine. They are easy to use and offer a means to finely tune your training and nutrition programs. A product developed by B. Fritz and Dr. Fahey is a testing method that was probably the best-kept secret of Russian athletes. This test provides an economical way to determine testosterone and cortisol levels in the body by analysis of saliva. When the body is over trained, cortisol levels increase. Cortisol is a catabolic hormone that stimulates the breakdown of muscle tissue. High amounts in the blood ultimately lead to tissue wasting and negative nitrogen balance. So, when the testosterone/cortisol ratio is high, anabolism is prevailing. However, when cortisol levels are high and the ratio is lowered, it is an indication of overtraining. Testing testosterone/cortisol ratio helps you determine whether the body is in a state of overtraining or not. In this way, you can determine how hard to train, whether to take a few days off, or if training intensity should increase. So back when #KurtCobain was alive and #grunge was in, I was seriously bad in PE class. But in the #summer1994 I discovered I was a good runner. I decided to #rescue that "talent" this year by preparing for the #dubaifitnesschallenge by #walking , #running , #sprinting , and #jogging 15,000 steps a day, which at my height is about 7 miles (11.3 km). The weather promised to be rainy but I ventured out. There’s a difference between changes you’ll be able to see long term and those you should be able to see short term. Adding muscle, gaining weight, 10mph velo increase, etc. are changes that you’re going to see long term. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be hunting for small improvements in the short term. Here, with a simple change in cue and how I thought about “running fast”, I dropped .1 off my flying 10 in a week. Now, on average it was more like a .06 drop, but that’s still substantial. A lot of times we’re fed the “have patience” pill, which is definitely true in some aspects. However, don’t let that stop you from trying new things in the short term to see immediate improvement. If we don’t make any of those small changes, how will we ever reach the end goal of substantial improvement? Keep the majority of what you do the same, changing and testing just a small part. Evaluate: did that work? If so, keep it. If not, move on. Don’t get hung up on the specifics. It doesn’t matter how you get better, only that you actually DO get better. I’ve Coached a few that later confessed that they just wanted the gains so bad in a short space of time (less than 3-months). But guess what, just like how you took years and grow that stubborn fat or been eating pure crap leading to muscle loss, it takes time for your body to respond when you start to do great things with it (sometimes less that 3-months but for the most part 3-months should be a baseline for exciting starter gains). That Ego maybe one reason why your gains are not making you happy. Get a simplified progressive training program, work like hell with it, eat nutritious food, rest, be patient, discipline and repeat. . Treat it like a shower 🚿. You get up, take it, go to work, take it, go to sleep and repeat. That daily consistent shower keeps you fresh for the most part until the next. Not saying you should workout twice a day every, am just saying maintain the same level of DISCIPLINE.
