That feeling when you’re halfway through the week. 📸: @gostanford
I'm really happy to be home and getting ready for my next semester that starts in a week. This will be my first semester of no online classes, so I'm really hoping my body will cooperate and not dramatically send me back to the hospital. The celiac plexus block - where they numbed the nerves that lead to my abdominal organs using Botox - worked in helping my pain enough to get off of ketamine and be home! But I still struggle with pain from CIPO and inflammation, so I'll be seeing my pain management doctor soon to talk about other nerve blocks that could help, or if a spinal cord stimulator could help control my pain. He's the only doctor who is really going out of his way to help me live my life and make plans with my other doctors. My other doctors say they don't have anything to do to help, and I'm really thankful that he never tells me that my options are all used up. It is really discouraging to be told at 19, by a specialist in my disease at Stanford, that I should go into palliative care, and that if I want a second opinion I'll have to go Mayo clinic in New York. That my experience of this rare disease is confusing and uncommon and too unpredictable to treat. That I am not a candidate for intestinal transplant and will stay on TPN forever, even though that means future liver and kidney failure and constant risk for life threatening infections. None of that is part of my identity that I want to carry with me, I wish I was much more boring or interesting in a different, less depressing way. All I can do is try my best to normalize it all for myself and for others, because I'm not the only one dealing with this or similar situations. (Swipe for a surprise 😉)

Shoutout to my beautiful friend @aberrantdna
for giving me this gem!! We have to remember to be mindful of where we focus our attention. We need to flourish our bodies with things that help our energy and grow it!
I'm trying to fill my life with things that help me to be the best person I can be.
I encourage you to check and see where your attention is going.
Is it good for your soul?
Does it help you become better?
Are you being fulfilled?
Do you see positive results from it?
Let me know in the comments below if you need to change where your attention goes or if you are on the right path!⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ I love you!
