How is it only Thursday? This has felt like a very long week for some reason! I’m a day late with this post due to some technical difficulties, but so it goes. 🤷♀️ Anyway, back to books! I read The Sleeping World a couple of months ago after receiving it in a @badpeoplebookclub
box. While I enjoyed the concept of a book set in Spain during the 1970s after the end of Franco's military rule, the execution left something to be desired. Gabrielle Lucille Fuentes attempted a rendering of that time that mixed the gritty disillusionment of the protagonist with the fantasies she still held about justice and love. I think that the book would have benefited from a harsher edit, honestly. 😬 It did pique my interest in this time period, however, so I'll be searching the shelves for more books set in this time period in the future!
While The Sleeping World takes place mostly in cities, I thought it would be fun to pair it with my @northave
candle inspired by Where the Wild Things Are. The protagonist (and most people they meet) are definitely wild in this novel, even if it is a different type of wildness! This Sugared Citrus + Island Greens candle smells SO good; visit the @northavecandles

: Wrong in all the right ways. This book was SO close to being right, but all of the pieces just didn't come together correctly.
: book + candle
: What Did I Just Read. I have so many questions!
: Identity Issues. Our protagonist struggles with her identity throughout the entirety of this novel.
