This one made me so emotional by the end of it.
Still Alice by Lisa Genova
Genre: Medical Fiction
Alice is a professor at Harvard. She has had a successful career of 25 years behind her and a close knit family. But things change, forever, when she is a diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Life changes as the disease progresses, rather degenerates her.
It’s hard to read how Alice deals with it. In her day to day life she is bowled over by Alzheimer’s, feeling helpless, frustrated and lost oftentimes.
The relationships get redefined. It isn’t easy for the family to see their loved one being take away so far... and then there is a point of no return.
I cried so much after reading. Thank you #lisagenova
for writing this one. It’s made me stronger in a lot of ways too.
We, in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, are not yet utterly incompetent. We are not without language or opinions that matter or extended periods of lucidity. Yet we are not competent enough to be trusted with many of the demands and responsibilities of our former emotional lives. We feel like we are neither here not there. It’s very lonely and frustrating place to be.’
