After the happy art gallery it was time for some real stuff. Checking out the cemetery just off French Quarter. Some family tombs, some community tombs, there’s one that belongs to Nicholas Cage apparently, and also the ones with XXX sign on them mean some witch is inside? I was only half listening to the guide, I have a short attention span.
Wall vaults are natural crematoriums. Bodies were not embalmed but put in whole for one year and one day. The result: ash and bone. I linger, thinking about this eventual moment to give me perspective on how I want to live my life. "Fully" my heart says. Now I think about this answer that came back. What is a FULL life? ....Visiting a cemetery is just as much about life as it is about death.
