Tuesday of the 1/2 term holiday, was an interesting day .... cricket tournament which Kam thought he’d been excluded from.
He’d got no idea he was going, only working it out when he saw his coach in the car park when we arrived. What am I doing here mummy? Why is my coach here? Is this the cricket tournament?” “I don’t know, you’d better go and find out.” He did, the coach said you’re here because when a boy hurt himself in the training session, you saw it, saw he was crying & came out to see if he was ok. You’re not here because of your cricket or behaviour, cus you need to sort out your behaviour & focus on your cricket. Go play cricket like I know you can.
Anyway, there was no all day viewing ... so I went to see my auntie, then drove miles to Ikea to buy some bits & pieces ha ha ha ha - silly me. I’d got Kam out of the car in such a rush I’dleft my purse in his bag. Luckily I checked before I entered the store, no purse!! What a waste of time. I msgd the coach to double check the bag & to ensure Kam didn’t lose the bag or contents & that it was in there - it was.
When I got back to the tournament we could watch the final. Kam’s team against another. The atmosphere was electric, all these children super excited & trying to hit extra runs from no balls & wides, hitting them of the side & back walls. Kam managed to get himself bowled out by not watching the ball or playing with a straight bat. He wasn’t amused, but still he was the runner for their last batsman & boy did they run,run and run some more.
In the end, they came away with the silver medal. There were a few tears & Kam was not happy. He tried to give his medal back to the coach...oops🤦♀️... he was very frank & fair, fair play to him.
I said to him this is the best medal you’ll ever win ‘cus you now know what it’s like to lose, you’ll focus, work harder & play better to try to get the gold medal with your team next time. Had you have won the gold medal you’d have been all smart allic who wouldn’t listen to his coaches or me, danced more, concentrated less & then you’d have said “I can bat how I want ‘cus I won a gold medal.”
