This Florida heat got me dreaming of ice cream 🍦
Had the rare opportunity today of capturing some lightning above the house that is offering up these timeless images I've been posting recently. Storms rolled in, one after the other and so I had the luxury of waiting for the right strike. While waiting, the neighbor, who's yard I was standing in across the street, told me I was going to be struck if I continued to stand out in his yard like a lightning rod. Fortunately, I didn't have to stand there too long. And yes, this image is heavily edited and it's intentional. I wanted a direct contrast to the sunny, bleach white light that has been afflicting my exterior photography all week here in Florida. I've been cursing the sun all week (I hate heat and sun - my wife loves it) and when God decided to bless me with horrible weather, I was thrilled! And so, instead of offering all of you another typical, cookie cutter Florida sunshine image - look upon this and ponder that there is a darker, creepier side of Florida that hides behind all that sunshine.

Recently I have noticed that wasps have been infesting my butterfly eggs and killing my caterpillars! Remember, one monarch lays hundreds of eggs so predators are a necessary evil to maintain a healthy ecosystem in your garden. It’s almost impossible to avoid these predators but I can step up my protections for my flutterbottoms! I got this idea from another awesome monarch hatchery who uses individual floral tubes to keep the milkweed clippings (with eggs) protected inside but still getting nourishment to keep the clipping alive. I’m really hoping this works and my investment pays off 🤞#flutterbottomfacts
Took the A1A down to St Augustine today. It was a beautiful drive
I can't believe summer is ending soon! That means no more afternoon snuggles with my babes! Ahhh what am I gonna do?
Where are all my teacher friends at?!
When do y'all go back to school? We got back August 3rd! (Teachers) 😔
Day 7... I can't believe it's only Tuesday! I've been here a week and I feel I have done quite alot already! Today we went to Steve Irwin's zoo, the Australia zoo. It's so strange to see animals you have never seen before, I was a little obsessed with the kangaroos and the koalas 😂 and you could pet them which made the trip a whole lot more exciting. The koalas are so soft and fluffy and the kangaroos are so chilled out and friendly at the zoo. We watched a bird and crocodile show. The birds would swoop over the crowd in a routine, they were really good to not just fly away. The croc came out at the end and we watched the trainer feed him and explain the rules on how not to get eaten by one, even though it looked like a near miss when he was feeding him but I'm sure it's part of the show,.. basically don't swim in the water with crocodiles Haha! Simples. I had a photo holding a koala as you've already seen. Lots more photos on my big camera which I will sort through when I get back. Great practice for wildlife photography! #travel #australia #australiazoo #brisbane #steveirwin #wildlife #photography #animals #koala #kangaroo #snakes #lizards #zoo #travel #sunshinestate #holiday

Managed to develop a whopping chest infection & haven’t been out for my usual wander in a few days. 🤒
We are so lucky in Brisbane to have the mildest winters, usually still full of beautiful sunshine. After living in NZ & Canada I finally realised how the cold made me ill and unhappy & made my way back to this amazing city to be bathed in sunshine as often as possible ☀️🧡
Time for a shellfie🐚 in our Shell tee! Portions of sales go to environmental charities 🌎
Summertime boating trips are only made better by good company and unique wildlife. Like the least terns that make their way back to Keewaydin every year to nest 🐣
my heart is heavy for the precious kiddos being separated from their families at the border, particularly on this Father's Day when we need more men being good fathers and staying with their families.
i'm not sure what the next steps look like or how to help. i mostly feel overwhelmed by it all and want to educate myself on the processes and policies. and i wonder what the current president's own family and children think of him, as a person, as a father, as a "leader". do they feel fathered or exploited or ashamed or proud?
what i do actually know and have made peace with is my father in Heaven's love, how He cares deeply for the souls He created. i think He is nearer than we know, that He is in the tiny and big moments alike. i think His heart breaks in times like this, when monumental atrocities are being done in the name of what is ultimately rooted in fear.
what if we stopped fearing one another and just loved deeply instead? what if borders and oceans and language and culture didn't separate us, but held us together more intricately and intentionally? we're here for just a moment, a mere vapor. what if we made it count?
