Ever have a pesky thought that you can't seem to get rid of? 🤔 Maybe like, "I'm not good enough," "why am I even trying to make art," or "if only ____ then I would finally be happy" ?? The funny thing about those thoughts is that the more you entertain them, the more they seem to pop up, and soon it's like an annoying T-swift chorus on repeat in your head. 🙄 .
While it's frustrating, the same reason those thoughts seem to multiply❎ can be the key🗝️ to changing your inner dialogue: I'm talking about Neuroplasticity. 🧠😍 Let's think about your neural network like a huge river 🏞️, with a bunch of little creeks off of it: each creek represents different thoughts you could have. When your water (thoughts) gets "stuck" going down (as I like to call) shits creek 😂 over and over again, that creek gets wider, and deeper. And the bigger this creek full of doubt and self-deprecation gets, the harder it is to get any water down the other direction. It's like Mulan says, and soon your creek is "swift as a coursing river." 🤷 So what the heck can we do about it? It's time to throw a rock in the creek ✋, and divert your thoughts to another direction. ↔️ Sure, at first it's hard, and you might not even believe yourself the first time you think "I am good at this." But the more you think it - the more water you push down that creek, and away from the other one- the wider and deeper that creek gets, until your automatic thought of "I'm not good enough" is replaced with "I am enough, just as I am." .
Now, I'm preaching to the choir with this one, and sometimes need some help diverting my creek, but I'm choosing to recommit to it today, and am replacing my "I don't know what I'm doing" creek with "I am an artist." And with Neuroplasticity on my side, soon, that'll be a whole dang river. .
What's the thought dominating your river right now 🤔? And what can you replace it with? Let me know in the comments, and we can keep each other accountable! 🙏 Nobody likes being stuck up shits creek 😉
