Studies show that having a diet full of variety is super important for your health. However, our diets are increasingly becoming more homogenized despite what people may believe. What seems like abundance in grocery stores, is often confused with “variety”. Yes, there is a lot to choose from in a grocery store, but most of the products are coming from the same type of crop(s). Corn, Wheat, Soy, Rice. We are relying too much on these crops (as well as a limited variety of animal breeds). Limiting variety leaves our agriculture system prone to pests, disease, depleted nutrition to our food supply (& consumers), and withstands the ability to adapt with climate change (or if you don’t believe in climate change-our increasingly unpredictable weather patterns).
Did you know there are over 4,000 different potatoes varieties? We have about 200 here in the US and usually you can buy about 3-5 different kinds at a regular grocery store. Shopping at a farmers market can increase your chances of adding different varieties in your diet. .

Sending a little love your way this Monday with this delicious and loving smoothie from @christieathome
Blueberry Chia Smoothie // A delicious glass of fiber and antioxidants thanks to the chia and blueberries. This smoothie takes 5 minutes to make and the chia pudding can be soaked overnight in the fridge. I love the textural combination of smoothie with chia pudding. The pudding reminds me of a healthier version of tapioca. A great breakfast or dessert idea

All thangs “fall” - meal prep breakdown, dropping some seasonal knowledge, and new training #goals
The change in season is a time of mixed feelings, melancholy, bittersweet gratitude yet longing for continuous sunshine, while also looking forward to new.
As a fire-y, 'on' type who thrives on long, hot summer days, being in my bikini all I can, the abundance of summer fruits and veggies, boundless outdoor activities and pool days - the change of seasons means layers, closed pools, being inside, dark bike rides to the gym in the morning and home at night rather than the joyous birds and beams of sunshine awakening me each morning.
It means slowing down. Something previously fought and routinely neglected.
This year, I'm embracing this opportunity for different training, goals, programming, bed times, and priorities. Rather than fighting the lack of light, using it to my advantage to optimize what my body needs to get where I want to go and what best serves me now.
In the blog I talk about what these goals are, cover the meal prep (lots of recipe ideas), and benefits of seasonal eating (in particular as it relates to our microbiome) as we enter fall!

Mexican camp fire feast for our last night of staying in the wilderness 🌳 ⛺️ 🌮 🔥
There has been no other time in history where we have had the standard of living that we have now.
Yet, why is the West so deeply unhappy and unsatisfied?
Why do we feel lonelier than ever?
Why do we our jobs not fulfill us?
Why do we find love so difficult to give out?
Isolation is as powerful as a killer as smoking and alcohol.
When we have good, secure relationships , these don't just protect our bodies. They protect our brains as well. They bring us long-term joy, stability, memories, laughter, family, shoulders to cry on, wisdom... The works.
But we focus so much on food (diet) and money (for things and job security) to be our priorities that it can be easy to forget about the importance of awesome, awesome relationships that nourish our souls.
Let's remember that aging well isn't limited to some fleeting meal plan or saving up for our retirement fund (at some undisclosed age in the future). It's so much about who we surround ourselves with and spend our precious time on (one of the most valuable resources in the world, let's be honest).
It feels like we already know all this, but we (I definitely do as well) still get caught up in a wordly way of thinking. We are sidetracked by the vision of others, the desire to buy more, the financial stress of life in general and the idea that social media connects us deeply with others when in reality, it just isn't the same as face-to-face. .
Invest in your loved ones as a priority, and give deep from the joy you receive from them! It feels good to love and be loved ❤️

Who doesn’t need a green juice after the weekend!? My fridge is filled with harvested fruit like these Asian pears. Blending these with some fresh kale and parsley from my veggie box made the perfect end-of-the-weekend remedy. I added some local ginger too, along with a few cups of water. No need for a fancy juicer, I don’t mind drinking the pulp so a blender works fine. If your not a fan of pulp you can strain the juice with a fine mesh sieve. What did u get up to this weekend? We shot photos for a wedding and captured an amazing double rainbow! I even saw the end of the 🌈 See my story for proof!
There could have been a picture of Bryan eating a lobster roll, but it 1) happened too fast and 2) really felt like a sacred moment.

Life is short. We all hear it and know it, and I definitely need a reminder now and again. .
Issac’s grandma passed last week and is now gone for two weeks to support his family. It’s been a tough time and an abrupt reminder of how precious life is. Call your loved ones. Hug a friend. Share a smoothie bowl. Spend time with those you cherish because none of it is permanent. .
Recipe to share with someone you love (makes 2 servings):
-1 cup coconut milk
-2 tbsp. plain yogurt
-1 banana -1 ripe peach
-1 cup steamed then frozen yellow squash
-1/3 cup frozen raspberries
Add to a blender and mix until smooth. Top with your faves - I used banana, chia seeds, bee pollen, and @purely_elizabeth

MEX: Street food market at Plaza de La Solidaridad this morning. Starting with some tostadas with guacamole and insects please! 🐜🦗🦂 Insect BioEquilibra serves up a variety of crispy insects including mealworms, giant ants, locusts and even scorpions! The latter was a bit too scary for us to try! Actually just tastes crispy but for some reason the giant ants were my favourite of the three we chose!

I hope this wonderful equinox energy finds you well.. I’ve spent some time this week, planning, working away & preparing for the months to come. Sadly my Art has taken the back seat this week, & with the Update on Monday.. I feel it may be a bit lack luster! That being said, the amount of inspiration & happiness I’ll receive from this edible green aviary surrounding me shall be limitless! & I cannot wait to share ALL those wonderful vibes with you through my Art.
Being able to grow a good portion of our food inside without relying on vendors is a big part of our Sustainable vision. & with that; my focus has been creating space & accommodations for all our wonderful new green Flora & Foliage heading our way. 🖤 From the local nursery: Sage, Basil, Rosemary, Cilantro, Holly, Honeysuckle, Cranberries... 🌱
Blessed Be ✨🍁
