I’m reading Harriet the Spy with my evening in-house book club. Last night we read chapter 2, where Harriet describes how she has cake and milk and milk and cake 🎶 for her snack every single day after school. My bottom three were all leaning into me; Sabrina brushing my hair, Harvey following along with every word in the book, Adele linked in my right arm with her own.... we were all thinking the same thing: we really need cake and milk for our after school snack....
So you guessed it—homemade almond pound cake and strawberries with milk waiting when my little Harry and Harriet the Spies walked in the door today. And I don’t take it for granted that my schedule allows for this, for now. #sweettreat#snickitysnack#haveourcake#andreadittoo 🍰📘🔍
Tesco finest white chocolate and strawberry cake.
I am not really a cake person so when the husbamd picked this up i was not jumping for joy however the flavour did intrigue me and i figured i may aswell give it a go. The cake itself looked beautiful, a pale light sponge filled with strawberry jam and white chocolate buttercream and topped with white chocolate shards and little pieces of tart strawberries. The sponge was light and delicate with a hint of vanilla. The buttercream was INCREDIBLY sweet, i did have to leave a third of my slice as it was just too sickly for me and i struggled getting it down although the husband (who eats cake daily may i add) wolfed his slice down and said it was fine for him and that he would hace had a bigger slice than the 1/6 i gave him haha. He gace it a 9/10. The jam in the centre was lovely and really added a beautiful flavour, it helped to lessen the sweetness and i really appreciated it. The little bits of strawberry on top were quite tart aswell which again was lovely against the sweetness of the cake.
So as i say i dont really like cake but this was nice, i dont think i will have it again but the only cakes i tend to want again and again are fruit cakes and things like that so its hardly a surprise. If you are a cake person then i am sure this wont dissapoint, the flavours and textures are lovely.
