We had a whirlwind trip to Iceland recently, which was brief but amazing. We took in the greatest hits (Reykjavik, the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon) and enjoyed it all with @pintsizepilot
and her family.
It's taken me a while to get through the 100s of photos that I took (it's amazing how many you can take in 3 days!) so I'm only just getting around to posting them. .
So, I thought I'd start at the end of our trip, which was our time at the Blue Lagoon, and work backwards. The Blue Lagoon is conveniently located not far from the international airport, making it an easy stop to or from Reykjavik (I'm told it's a great jetlag cure). Anyway, I thought I'd start with this photo because I just love how happy the kids look. This is Alfie and Tess with Tara's two kids and the four of them had a great time together (with Sam joining in every now and then, too!). Although the kids don't get to see each other that often, they get on very well when they do meet up, which makes me happy!

Can’t wait to get inside! Homeschool field trip for the win! (Thanks to my #toyotasienna
Sea Life Aquarium, and Legoland, are currently devoting a whole week to homeschoolers! They have reduced rates and special workshops throughout the day. Fish dissection workshop anyone?!? I’ll share more on this later! We’re going in! 🐡🦀🐠 We’ll probably be here all day!
Have you been to Sea Life or Legoland before? If so, what was your favorite part? If not, tag a friend who you think would want to join you for a visit.

“Recently we’ve been going through the ‘I don’t want to walk / I don’t want to ride in the stroller’ phase with Olivia. This usually turns into either an epic toddler meltdown in the middle of the city or one of us just caving and carrying O, too big for a carrier, too small to walk miles 🙈
When we heard about the #piggybackrider
it was as if the heavens opened up and the light was finally shining through! An answer to our problems, and hope for parents all around!
So here we are touring the Capitol on our evening walk with smiles from ear to ear, no tantrum in sight 🙌🏼 thank you @piggybackrider
This book is the golden ticket when exploring Schönbrunn with your kids. Because we read this book before we traveled, I found Schönbrunn more alive and magical. My kids did too! 😂 In Mary Pope Osborne’s “Midnight on the Magic Flute,” characters, Jack and Annie, are whisked to 18th century Vienna on a mission to help an unnamed artist. They get sidetracked by an ornery little boy named Wolfie, only to later discover, Wolfie is actually the artist they came to help, Mozart. Through a series of events, the reader takes a tour of Schönbrunn, the gardens, zoo, meets Hapsburgs, learns about the boy genius Mozart, and maybe even learns of the inspiration behind his famous Magic Flute. #visitvienna #austria #visitaustria #schonbrunnpalace #viennawithkids #austriawithkids

Kieran and Jon are discussing their Wailea Canyon Activity Pool strategy. This is the first time Kieran is tall enough (at least 48 inches) to ride the two large slides. The Lava Slide takes riders up to 22 miles per hour down 262 feet into one of 9 pools on six different levels. That’s a lot of numbers but the bottom line is there is no place like the @grandwailea. #grandwailea #familytravel #maui
Our hearts are broken 💔 as we’ve learned the #woolseyfire
has burned our beloved Leo Carrillo State Park. So many spectacular memories camping and hiking here... our thoughts are with all the families affected and displaced by this raging fire. And our extreme gratitude and appreciation to all the firefighters who are working around the clock to battle this blaze. 🙏🔥
We know this is part of the regeneration cycle, and our forests will rebuild, but it’s still devastating 😢
Dubrovnik was definitely one of the most spectacular cities we have been to. We totally loved the Old Town Walls. All the views were not disappointing. At no doubts it was love at first sight (shhh don’t tell this to my husband!). Dubrovnik is full of beautiful scenery, history, fascinating sights and great food. Everyone will find something for interesting there! However since Games of Thrones, it became darn popular and overcrowded. TIP OF THE DAY: We used to be in Old Town around 8am and there were no crowds yet, the temperature would be still lovely and cool. If you wish to walk the Walls, make sure to be one of the first ones up. No-one will disturb you with taking insane number of photos and you can fully enjoy the views and stops.
"The wild women has a deep love of nature, a love for the ancient mother, though possibly misunderstood, it has always been in her. When she goes into the wilderness, a part of her soul is going home." .
One of my favorite quotes because it rings so true. This year we have spent way more time at our house then we are used to. Thankfully my Aunt came to visit and we pushed ourselves to pack all the gear and force ourselves into the cold and explore. Most parents know how hard it is to prepare for long hiking with small kids. It tends to be way easier to just stay home or go to the local park. This last week has been so inspiring for me and beneficial for our girls. It rekindled the burning fire inside that had been put out by constantly giving to my girls and not taking time to do what I wanted. We talked and bonded with eachother and with the earth. There is nothing like spending time outdoors. It's healing. Where is your favorite place to connect with nature?
Caramel on anything is winning for meeee! 😋 what about you?
As a busy parent, how do you stay on task and take care of ALL the things??⠀
I made another big realization after a month of travel around Southern California: our kids have schedules and routines, so why the heck don't we??⠀
The trouble is, when both you and your spouse work from home, the lines between when it's time for work and family and housework and errands, well...it all gets a little blurry.⠀
And what ended up happening was I was trying to do everything all at once. The boundaries between all of these different parts of our lives were rarely there, and I was bouncing from one thing to another, completely overwhelmed with deciding what important task to tackle next!⠀
I'm happy to say, with this realization I am getting better. I've created a schedule for myself so that everything has a place. Instead of folding laundry while writing a blog post, I've divided my day into "batches" so there's no more need to struggle between the two.⠀
Now, is finding the time to do it all still hard? Heck yes! But that's a battle for another day. For now, I'm just working on driving myself a littttttle less crazy every day. 🤪
: When your greatest adventure is the life right in front of you.⠀
This past summer we had one of those family vacations where everything that could go wrong, went wrong. You know what I mean?!⠀
- 😎Head out after work thinking the kids will "sleep thru most of the drive."⠀
- 🤯Engine starts smoking after four hours down the road.⠀
- 🙏Turn around and drive 45 minutes in the opposite direction praying your car doesn't die in the middle of nowhere.⠀
- 👊 Arrive at the last rental place open 3 minutes before they close.⠀
- 🙌 Tell the kids; "EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!"⠀
- 😒Cram all your earthly belongs in a car half the size of what you had originally planned for. ⠀
- 🤠Back on the road by 1AM! 2 hours behind schedule…⠀
- 🤮Middle boy pukes (probably the McDonalds you shoved down his throat).⠀
- 😴Arrive at pre-booked hotel at 4AM.
- 🤮Baby pukes #2
picking him up from his car seat (probably from McDonalds and all the cheeze-itz you feed him just so he'd go to sleep). ⠀
- 🤑Pay $100+ bucks for a hotel you stay less than 6 hours in.
- 👍Back on the road… it's a new day!⠀
- 🤮Oldest boy pukes #3
- 🤓You finally get smart and just hang trash bags off the back of the seats in front of the kiddos and threaten that you'll start taking money out of their college fund #genius
- 😳All of the car seats have been disassembled to JUST their frames, no cushy cushions for these pukesters. ⠀
- 😱Stop and have an amazing lunch at a beautiful river… then you realize there are children playing in it and it's right next to the sanitary station for the whole town. ⠀
- 🙃ALMOST THERE!!⠀
- 😎Tell yourself; "EVERYTHIG IS AWESOME" a few more dozen times.
- 🤢Middle boy recognizes he needs to puke (again) #4
… you pull the car over… throw him on the side of the road JUST. IN. TIME. He does his thing and shoots you a thumbs up through the window (insert above photo).⠀
- 🤗That's right baby; "Everything IS awesome!" #winning
And that was JUST getting there. It was hard ya'll. It was ugly. But it was family and it was doing life together. Puke and all! #bringingdesignhome
What's your best family adventure story? Let's celebrate the hard stuff!
Life with my boys!
Thankful for slow lazy mornings like the one pictured here.
Actually most of our days recently have been relaxed- as relaxed as you can get with a 3 and 5 year old!! It had been a time of deep processing and shifting in my life. Learning as always how to let go of things and manifest a new/fresh reality.
One thing I am working on in my momming is soulful discipline and boundary setting!
I will share the thing that is hardest for me as a mom is following through on consequences. And it is difficult to keep your cup full when negotiating with toddlers all day! [And because I am not firm in my boundaries I feel like I am constantly in fight or flight] Which I recognize is fully my own fault... So I'm learning how to set and follow though in my parenting... with love and kindness and lots of grace for myself.
Empathetic limits (is what my parenting mentor calls it [@parentingjunkie
] ☆☆☆she is amazing btw for anyone looking to learn more about this topic!) and for me it's easy to read and understand... but putting it into practice is where I fall short.
Oh the journey of parenting- ever expanding.
Growing along side my boys. ♡♡♡

Oh, so we not going to say anything about Stella wearing wolf ears 😅🤔🙈!!! And totally getting into character 🤩! .
Kids are sooo funny 😆 they really make people smile 😊!
When we originally planned our trip to Iceland, an ice cave experience was at the top of our wish list. We just weren’t sure if it could happen due to the fact that it would be the very beginning of the ice cave touring season and we had some logistical issues to work out due to a tight time frame. With the help of local companies @hiddeniceland
, not only did we see a spectacular ice cave, but we also managed to be some of the first visitors to see it (new ones form every year from the flow of water carving them out). What an amazing experience it was ! #hiddeniceland #iceland
Hiking with this gem of a kid is always an adventure. And when I say hiking I mean climbing every rock, picking up all the cool leaves, spotting all the woodland creatures, and jumping all the creeks. Oh and it’s not just hikes....it’s walks, strolls, rambles, even bike rides. This kid takes “taking time to smell the roses” to a whole new level!
✨ 2 out of 4 looking at the camera, we’ll take it 😆 Well that’s a wrap on our London trip, such a fantastic time! We had both been here before but this was the first time with kids so we knew it would be a bit more of a challenge 😃 Overall everyone had a great time and we can’t wait for out next family adventure! 👨👩👧👦 🇬🇧 @goprouk @carolynncrane @bgc85 #famjamtravels
