We have had a fair amount of success and recognition lately having been named a finalist for the American Business Awards for innovation for the 4th year in a row, placing several high profile c-level sales and marketing leaders and adding a rockstar President @jaime.lannon.diglio to our team. Despite that, and throughout our 4 years in business I fully recognize that every few months, despite our success we will ALWAYS look back and laugh at all of the dumb things we did or should have been doing. We talk about this a lot internally because we need to keep our hunger, our edge and our focus on constant learning and improving. We have a “ just getting started mentality”, a “the best is yet to come mindset” and a “sky’s the limit” belief that we have far from arrived. I think there is huge danger in believing you’ve arrived. You never do. The goals just keep getting pushed out to stretch you further. Someone who does this exceptionally well is my friend @jesseitzler . He never focuses on his past success. He focuses on what’s next. We will continue to celebrate our wins which is important but we will always know that we have more questions than answers which I think will propel SomethingNew LLC to keep innovating to continue to serve our clients better and better everyday.

I know that you know this in theory, but really apply what you otherwise advise others to do. Assume that the startup does not have a dedicated Talent Acquisition department that works with the interviewers on how to structure a conversation with a candidate. It is your #job to help them along, and at the end of the day it is your ow path to craft. Be crisp and succinct about your story, describe your background, progression, and valuable contributions in a focused manner. Rehearse it a few times, preferably out loud. Understand the position description well, and draw that into the description of your own career. “Hands-on” is big - - what can you do on your own? “Directing big teams” is scary - - will you DO anything at all? Startups want people with huge #imagination and drive to #execute on that imagination by getting their own hands into the details. Help them understand that by constructing your own #interview that way. This has been a week of setting up a LOT of introductory calls and coffee meetings, which I love. Today there were two interactions (one phone and one over a cup of tea at this gorgeous shop here in TriBeCa) that really stood out in a positive way: 1) call with a Senior TA pro who had deep, thoughtful questions for me about my career journey, my perception of the #recruitment market, my philosophy about #hr ...I felt valued, heard, and that my perspective mattered. It made me think so much about #candidateexperience and how in Recruitment we enjoy the same, authentic warm and fuzzy feelings when people are curious about us! #recruiterexperience 2)My tea meeting was with a strategic HR pro I’ve known for a while but hadn’t yet met in-person. I found our conversation inspiring and refreshing-sharing a discussion around HR trends (work-life flexibility, compensation, HR advocating for their own dept...) She was kind, engaging and intelligent. This was offset by some weird interactions I’ve also had this week in response to my introductory emails. Some felt cold and removed from the idea of connection “Not adding vendors at this time” “No need to connect, I’m not looking for a new job now”...
