This is a #fantasticwine
of impeccable complexity and structure. It’s medium to full bodied with red cherry and Black Forest fruits which then takes you on a journey that includes subtle spicy oak and a lovely savoury aspect that includes wild undergrowth and field mushrooms. Rose petals add some softness and lift as the wine finishes with bright, silky smooth tannins 🍷
Pooleys are Tasmania's oldest winemaking family. 2nd Generation John Pooley is currently at the helm, but it's his children that have taken the wines to another level of quality. 🍷
Both are highly acclaimed in their field with Matt the Viticulturist, managing 2 different vineyard sites in Cooinda Vale near Campania and Butchers Hill near Richmond. Anna is the winemaker, who spent several years working for Treasury Wine Estate, looking after the Heemskerk portfolio and she was also awarded Australian Young Winemaker of the Year in 2010 and together Matt and Anna were nominated as joint finalists for the 2018 Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the year.
Add to the mix Anna's husband Justin Bubb, an acclaimed Winemaker in his own right and was winemaker for Babo Wines in Italy, and together you have a formidable team, punching out some extremely impressive wines. 🍷
There are 4 separate blocks on Cooinda Vale which are handpicked, hand sorted and then fermented separately. The fruit is destemed without crushing and then fermented. Pumping over is done periodically during fermentation which lasts around 10 days and then the fruit is kept on the wine for further maceration after the ferment is complete for a further 8-10 days. The wine is unfined and unfiltered.
