Let’s get to know a bit more about the Young Gun of Wine Top 50 for 2018… the best young and emerging winemakers in the country.
Give a big He-Man hello to Peter Dredge, aka Dr Edge, of Meadowbank @meadowbank_tasmania.
Q. Who was the first person you told when you found out you were among the Top 50 young guns of wine?
A. I forwarded the email to the other partners at Meadowbank, we got so excited we used emojis on our emails and texts.
Q. Is there a wine or a person that inspires you as a winemaker?
A. Wolf Blass. The old story about him stealing a floor stack of discounted Wolf Blass wine from one of the chain liquor stores in the early days to maintain brand integrity is well….. priceless.
And Wolf Blass hasn’t been in a discounted floor stack at one of the chains ever since…… no, wait??? Q. What’s your favourite spot to enjoy wine?
A. My local, Willing Bros Wine Bar @willingbros
in North Hobart is the place for me. Especially during harvest when you can get a glass of wine, steak frites and a good conversation on the way home from the winery at 10.30 at night. A nice tale of when customers become friends, on both counts.
Q. What’s the one thing in your wine world that you can’t live without?
A. Music, without music - at the winery during crushing or topping barrels, whilst travelling for sales work or driving in the car to look at vineyards or pick up stock from the warehouse - the wine industry would be boring as fuck… so music is most important.
