It’s a glorious 68 degrees here in Michigan, and my box(es?) of fallish Halloween decorations are waiting for me to crack their lids. Mirei is due for her first Hocus Pocus experience (she may even have her own copy...) and I’m just feeling all sorts of READY!
But before I do any of that, I’m so stinkin’ excited to announce the winner of my FALL GIVEAWAY!
Congratulations to @farmhousechicteacher
A huge THANK YOU to all who entered and helped spread the word! Already planning the next giveaway, and I feel no shame 😏

How are you saying YES to rest and play today? ✨
I was having a lot of Sunday / house buying / not enough yoga / junk food eating / being an adult anxiety. Then I did a cartwheel (#30before30
) and watched an episode of The Good Place, and it didn’t go away, but it eased up. Take yourself out of your head and into your body with laughter or movement or hugs or whatever works for you on your #selfcaresunday
. And share what works for you below so we can get ideas from each other!

I was scrolling through my saved photos in my phone and I came across this screen shot I took from @mrsmithsclass.
I had planned to use this great idea in my classroom this year, but I haven't found a place for it in my room just yet. However, this is something I'd definitely be interested in including in my room as it can serve as an effective exit slip technique or simple comprehension assessment of the particular lesson taught. It can help students reflect on what they've learned and express what or how they are thinking about the new information. It can also help teachers figure out which students are struggling with the new information, which students are on target, and which students have fully grasped the concept. Additionally, this information can help teachers plan for further instruction.
Please tell me I’m not the only one finishing up projects I was brainstorming all summer 🙈
I may only be a day or two ahead, but I try to do the assignments I give my students, partly to test out the timing, and partly to give them a model. Here’s a dialectic journal in which they will read an American literature book of choice. I hadn’t heard of Cane or Jean Toomer before, but it was popping up on must-read-Am-Lit lists, and I’ve consistently loved artists of the Harlem Renaissance, so here I am, listening as my husband mows our lawn, enjoying the cooler weather, making my first dialectic journal since I was sixteen and it was the summer before my junior year with AP Language, which my mother taught and I loved. Only twenty or so pages in, and I’d recommend this hybrid text!
Okay guys! I need some engagement advice! 》My students are struggling to stay engaged during class. What are some ways to keep engagement?
P.S. I don't have a smartboard in my classroom nor do I have a projector 😅 my resources are limited.
Anyone else already thinking about pumpkins and pumpkin activities to do with their students?! 🎃 I have an entire day of hands on activities (with free recording sheets) on the blog that you can use for a super fun Pumpkin Exploration Day in October! Never too early to plan, right? 😊 Link in profile. #pumpkin #pumpkinexploration #childhoodunplugged
