Welcome back to a new week team! Unfortunately Kerry “The Male Model” Gray couldn’t be with me on this technique video, so its going to be a boring solo one!
However, we are tackling the barbell overhead reverse lunge - so worth having a watch for this fantastic, but difficult movement. - let’s kick off by going over the grip and position with the barbell overhead, we are looking to take a wide grip as opposed to a narrow one as this will shorten the “arm” of the weight providing you more stability
- we want the barbell directly overhead, this will place you in the strongest lockout position allowing the traps, entire shoulder and triceps to aid in keeping the weight still
- when bracing the core, you want to think about “pressing” the stomach out as opposed to contracting it like you would with a crunch, this will provide you with the highest stability (may do a separate video of this technique)
- when descending, we want to make sure all the weight is loaded on the leading and working leg, our rear leg is there purely for support
- the further back the back leg goes, the more ROM you’ll create and the harder/better the movement will be
- look to keep the knee straight and do not let it track forward so we minimize the quads involvement on the descent (it will fire harder on the ascent) - when coming back up, try to lean forward and place all the work on that leading leg as opposed to pushing off with the back leg
- if the movement feels too easy, then work on your depth and reach before looking for more weight, we don’t need a lot of weight for this movement to be effective given the nature of it

a big welcome to MMT!!! Coach Jordan started today's 11am Boxing Class and he impressed everyone that made it in class this morning with his unique blend of mobility, boxing technique and conditioning.
I first met and have known Jordan since he was 15 yrs of age training as an amateur boxer at my old gym Evolution Mafa in Mississauga. Fast forward 11 years later, dont let Coach Jordan's young appearance fool you. Coach Jordan has had vast Boxing experience training with both professional and amateur fighters, under some of Ontario and Canada's best coaches. With a great past amateur fight record, and former Golden Gloves silver medalist in Boxing, as well as a number of years experience as a personal trainer, Coach Jordan will be instructing MMT's Boxing classes, offering private & group training as well as helping Coach & Train MMT Athletes.
Coach Jordan will also bring the finicky and intricate MMT approach of technique first to both Boxing and Muaythai!!!
