My last adventure of the summer felt more like a misadventure. I wound up way closer to a bear than I ever care to be again, somehow completely lost the trail going through a scree field (nerve-wracking), my phone screen shattered, and despite the sunny forecast, Rainier does what she wants and was decidedly Not Out.
I escaped the Tatoosh wilderness relieved to be in tact and headed for the more familiar trails of Paradise. At least the marmots were up to their silly antics, and I got to chat with some lovely folks who were also hoping for a glimpse of the mountain. After hours of staking out one of my favorite viewpoints while Rainier stayed completely socked in, I decided to call it a day. I stopped at the ranger station on the way out for an updated forecast, and they said more clouds and showers.
But I was not willing to admit defeat, so I turned the car around and drove back to one last spot to see if the clouds might move. Eventually the top of the mountain peeked through, then hid again, and I decided to wait it out, to the bitter end if necessary! After two more hours, just as the sun was setting, the clouds finally cleared and Her Majesty came into view. Cue my traditional last-hike-of-summer cry, the thrill of seeing Rainier AT LAST, and getting to say a proper goodbye + thanks for the summer magic—until I’m back in the winter with snowshoes.~
No matter how many times you photograph something there is always something different, the angle, lighting , lens, location. Crater lake is no different, I must had taken 40-50 shots here, and you are probably right may be keep 4-5 , well here are few, all taken with iPhone
What does it mean to live “a good life?” It’s a question I’ve been thinking about a lot lately and the deeper I go into it the more I realize that there is no single thing. Sure, the world will try and sell you on a million different definitions of what they think it is, but at the end of the day the way you want to spend your precious time here is a deeply personal decision.
For some it’s about depth, for others it’s about security. Others desire love or growth, or one of a million other things like building companies, raising strong children, experiencing as much of this world as they can or simply gypsying around in a wicked Westy skiing every chance they can.
At the end of the day there is no right answer other than the one inside of you, so in a world of a million voices, make sure yours isn’t the one that gets drowned out, alright?
Let me know if you’re feeling this 🤙🏻 and if you’re as stoked for winter shred sessions as I am.
