I'm putting together a soundtrack of sorts, filled with the songs of our lives. Some we knew, some have come out since your passing but I reckon you'll like them.
Track one is The Day You Went Away by a young woman named Wendy Matthews. She's a lovely looking lass and the song came out a few years ago now, but the words still resonate with me.
I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard her sing 'its as blue as your blue goodbye.' as part of the lyric. As Blue as your Blue goodbye! Can you believe that, Val? It's as though the song had been written for you. Which is impossible I know but it doesn't stop me from pausing on a brilliant sunny day, looking up to the clear blue Sydney sky and wondering about you and who you might have been were it not for leukaemia.
I'll keep adding songs as I go, as a sort of homage to your memory. So many songs remind me of you, of us, of Mum and Dad and Panshanger. I'll write down a new one each day or so and say a little bit on why I've included it.
You've been gone for so long, Blue but I need you to know you're not forgotten. You'll never be forgotten... And there, I've said too much.
Till next time,
