just might be one of the most epic museums that I’ve ever visited. The scale of it is unreal as it’s housed in a former power station. When you walk in it takes some adjusting to figure out where the art even is! A little trivia, one of the action sequences in the latest Mission Impossible movie was filmed in this museum.
The collection focuses on international modern art. Entrance to the museum is completely free. The collection spreads across two buildings and several floors. You can see classic artists like Modigliani and Diego Rivera along with contemporary artists like Theaster Gates and Lorna Simpson.
One piece that stood out to me was #CildoMeireles
“Babel 2001,” which is a large tower of radios set to different frequencies and playing all at once. The project addresses information overload and failed communication.
I also really liked the layered artwork of African American artist #EllenGallagher
, her work melds painting, drawing, cutting, print-making, sculpture and collage.
