, who didn't think I was completely nuts when I said I wanted to style 'sea urchins or other slimy, pretty things' 😆, I got to translate a deeply personal family memory into a photoshoot.
Growing up, I traveled to Sicily fairly often over the summer because a huge portion of my family still lives there (my dad was born in Sicily and my mom is a 1st generation American from Sicilian parents). When we visited my dad's hometown, Marsala, it was tradition to rent a boat and ride out to Favignana, a small island off the western coast; solely for the purpose of swimming in the bluest water you can imagine, plucking sea urchins off the ocean floor, and eating them out of the sea with a squeeze of fresh Sicilian lemon and a loaf of crusty semolina bread.
While I personally don't like the taste of raw sea urchin (I think it tastes like 💄! 🤷🏻♀️), I love the tradition so much that I go ahead and taste it every time, in the spirit of adventure and just in case my tastebuds decide to change.
On the mainland, after a long day of swimming and exploring, we often congregated back at a cousin's home, around a table with family, sipping Italian bitters and playing 'Piatto' with a Sicilian deck of cards - which are so beautiful in their own right.
While the only urchins I could find in NYC are much larger than the ones in Sicily, which I dare say are more spiny and sinister looking, I'd be lying if this photo doesn't take me to back to those clear skies and saffire blue waters; snorkeling, eating things so fresh it all tastes like a dream, drinking, laughing and playing with some of the most loving people I know on this planet.
Thank you Jessica from the bottom of my heart for letting me try to depict this. You captured that Sicilian sunlight so perfectly, that it gives me all the nostalgic feels.

Let’s talk healthy fats! I used to stay away from things like avocado, nuts, & nut butters because they were too high in calories. When I first started researching diets that help manage PCOS naturally, one of the biggest things that came up for most women with “thin PCOS” is that we need to eat more healthy fats! Even those that don’t have have “thin PCOS” can benefit from eating more healthy fats. There’s a saying that goes “you need to eat fat to burn fat”.
I’ve come to love and look forward to my nut butters everyday. Sometimes I eat organic crunchy @eatnuttzo
straight out of the jar or sometimes I make my own nut butters. It’s pretty simple to make them - get some nuts (preferably organic - I get mine from @thrivemkt
), throw them in a food processor and add a dash of avocado oil to make it easier to blend. I like to add a Himalayan salt to mine but that’s totally optional! Easy 5sp dinner tonight I grabbed one of these @campbells
oven sauces 2sp for 1/4 cup at Target the other day and used it to roast chicken and potatoes 400° for 45 minutes and I added some frozen carrots
What to name this one? Hmm... “Third Week of August Farmers Salad” I love this time in the season with the abundance of gems the farmers markets have to offer. I found beautiful white cucumbers, sweet green tomatoes, and cotton candy grapes all at local farms. I used them and a few other ingredients to put together this salad. It was really lovely. Here’s the How To:
- cut white cucumber and green tomatoes into thin slices.
- cut cotton candy grapes in half lengthwise
- arrange all three on your plate
- combine honey apple vinegar and olive oil to make vinaigrette, pour on top
- add pine nuts, crumbled Bulgarian feta cheese, poppy seeds, fresh parsley and mint.
- serve, eat, enjoy!

Italian Wednesday! Zucchini Zoodles with slow cook turkey meatballs. Don’t eat less, eat smart 😀 The kids had a great first day of school, I went to Traders Joe, they loved dinner, it was a good day 💕 Night Night
More pantry and veg drawer raiding tonight, all in an effort to avoid a mid-week grocery run. White bean tuna salad. And my kids ate some of it (!) so you know I wrote it down...
In a large bowl combine 1/2 thinly sliced English cucumber, 2 sliced celery stalks, 2 sliced green onions, 1 minced garlic clove, 1 can of drained white beans, and 2 cans of tuna (drained and flaked). Then dress in evoo, white wine vinegar, lemon juice, s&p to taste.
It was the “Feast of Filets” !...
Yak !... Elk !... Bison and grass-fed dry aged Beef Filets w/ pinot noir, pure flake salts and... a side of melted butter for dipping. They were all tender Tenderloin Heaven !

This was a fun filet grilling challenge w/ grass-fed beef, bison, yak and elk (thanks @buyranchdirect
for sharing your secret stash). They were all different size n’ shape, so I tied them round and lightly seasoned w/ @jacobsensaltco
Steak. Seared hot, then off flame and removed each when interior reached 122-124F. Then... a painfully long 10-15 min. rest. Results ? I thought the Yak, top left, was delicious. Quite similar to Bison in taste and texture. The Elk, top right... Loved ! I’m not familiar with it, but I think it could’ve been pulled a min. earlier. It’s very lean ! It was still tender juicy and I was surprised it has a lot less or tighter grain than the others. And... the Beef, bottom two, had a little fat... always a winner !

Funny story, I once went out on a date and drunkenly demanded meat on a stick at 4am. 🤦🏻♀️😂 And we wonder why I'm single 🤷🏻♀️😎
When we were in Florence, we took an incredible cooking class and made this bruschetta that I haven’t stopped thinking about since. It was so simple... just cherry tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, basil, and a garlicky toasted baguette, but it was beyond delicious!! We used the freshest, juiciest tomatoes, and that’s really all it took to make the recipe shine!

, I figured it would be the perfect chance to share this bruschetta I love so much! 🍅🍅🍅 Here’s how to make it:
1 lb cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 baguette (I used a paleo baguette from @nectarinegrove
that toasted up perfectly!)
1 clove garlic
Salt & pepper
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch slices. Drizzle slices with extra virgin olive oil and toast in the oven until golden. Flip and toast the other side until golden as well.
2. Meanwhile, warm olive oil in a skillet and add the tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Sauté no more than 5 minutes, so they’re nice and juicy, but not too soft.
3. Slice the tip off a garlic clove and rub the toasted bread with the garlic clove until fragrant.
4. Spoon the tomatoes on to each toast (I like to really load them up), and top with fresh basil. Enjoy!!

Another day, another bowl 😊. With an egg of course (big shocker, right? 🤣). Eggs are my go to when it comes to adding protein to a meal. Some even call eggs the king of all proteins. They’re loaded with vitamins, minerals, protein, and good fats!

- 4 large egg(s) hard-boiled, halved
- 1 head(s) lettuce, red leaf
- 1/2 pound(s) chicken breasts, boneless, skinless or ham, grilled and diced
- 2 slice(s) bacon cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup(s) tomatoes, cherry or grape halved
- 4 medium onion(s), green sliced thin
- 2 medium celery stalk(s) diced
- 1 medium avocado(s) diced
- 4 tablespoon(s) Simple Salad Dressing (recipe on blog) or favorite salad dressing
1. Hard-boil eggs, cool and remove shells.
2. Meanwhile, cook bacon and crumble, grill chicken and dice (or dice ham).
3. Wash and chop vegetables.
4. Divide lettuce between two plates, top with vegetables, eggs, avocado and meats.
5. Top with Simple Salad Dressing.

Coconut yogurt bowls forever!! 🌟 These have become some of my favorite lunches because they're so simple and take no time at all to whip up! Y'all know I like everything to taste extra *fresh* and these bowls always do the trick.

coconut yogurt, a big spoonful of alll natural (salt and sugar free to be sure) peanut butter, a few chopped strawberries, @purely_elizabeth
granola, cinnamon to taste, and a teenny tiny bit of local honey. 🐝
Cocoa nibs and pumpkin seeds are also excellent additions if you're looking for a little something more!

After the longest day of traveling, I'm back home feasting on my favorite Grilled Tofu Spring Rolls from @oceancafelongbranch

Sometime in the last few months everyone in the family started eating shrimp, which is awesome because the #shiteveryoneeats
is a very short, exclusive list of foods. The wife took full advantage tonight when she made this shrimp, sausage and veggie skillet. Wife had hers straight up, I added some white rice to my bowl, little dude was only going to eat some shrimp and rice and then he ended up loving the sausage, the princess just ate the shrimp. Even though our plates looked different, since it all came from the same skillet and was prepared the same, it’s a victory.

Seasoned one pound of Argentinian red shrimp from @traderjoes
(it’s her go-to) with @primalpalate
new bae seasoning and cooked them in a little olive oil for a few min a side. Remove those from skillet and add two diced red peppers and a diced yellow onion and sauté until softened. Then add some sliced zucchini (wife used one medium zucchini and 1/2 a yellow squash), some minced garlic and a package of chicken sausage, sliced (tonight she used @bilinskisausage
Italian) and continue cooking until sausage is heated through. Finally, add back in the shrimp and season with s+p to taste.
That may sound like a lot, but she swears it’s just a few min to chip and slice and then about 15 min in the pan.

In The Buff smoothie bowl. It was supposed to white (hence the "buff"), buttttttt, I had some extra field greens I wanted to use up and I added in some spirulina, so it turned out green 💚. - 1 cup home made hemp milk
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 tbsp chia
- 1 tbsp hemp
- 1 scoop @genuinehealth
vegan fermented vanilla protein powder
- 2 tsp almond cashew butter
- 1 date
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp @vitalproteins
- 1 capsule @vitalproteins
Topped it off with a sprinkle of @livingintentions
Activated banana hemp superfood cereal for fun, and deliciousness 😋
I gave some to my toddler and she loved it "it tastes like ice cream 🍦"!
Confession: I am a total creature of habit when it comes to food! I could eat the same thing for days at a time and not get tired of it 😂🙈 BUT! Did you know our bodies thrive on a diverse, colorful diet! Now, there’s nothing wrong with routine and consistency, but when you feel like you’re getting stuck in an eating rut, it’s your body telling you to switch things up! 😬 So if you make a smoothie every morning for breakfast (like I do) try a new fruit + greens combination! Or if you make a big salad for lunch, add some new veggies or try a new yummy dressing to spice it up a bit 🙌🏻 Remember, food doesn’t have to be boring 😉 #wholesumkitchen
