Getting back into working out regularly again after a week off feels good. I gained some strength on rows yesterday which was a nice surprise. 1 hour intense cardio and shoulder presses today and then I tapped out. Also did some yoga for the first time in a while. I will be doing that more. Hopefully tomorrow will be fireworks when i deadlift 💥

I’m 35 years old, I have been an ER/ Critical care nurse for 13-14 years and for the last 3 years I’ve been a charge nurse in the only level 1 trauma center in the state of NM! It is busy and we see 250-300 people in 24 hours.
I had my one and only beautiful son Abraham Cameron 15 months ago. After I had him my energy tanked. I’ve always been a runner and I was lifting weights every day before he came along. I took my running back up because I can push him in his stroller and it’s our favorite thing to do together. When I put my running shoes on, he gets so excited because he knows what we are going to do. I started taking my protein shakes, BCAAs and pre-workout again. I even loved and supported the BANG energy drinks because they had Q10 and BCAAs and joint support in them as well! It still wasn’t working.

As moms we sacrifice so much of our time and energy for our families. We put off our personal goals, our careers, school, and put so much time into running our household, caring for our kiddos and our spouses that at the end of the day we are drained.
This is not where I want to be but it is progress. This is the first time I have been flexible enough to touch my forehead to my toes!!! For the first time in a while, not only do I have the time to focus more on me, but I have the ENERGY to. So much progress has been made this year it almost feels like I made up for the previous two years chugging coffee to get through the day and pushing off everything til “tomorrow.” Tomorrow turned to two years.
You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take time for yourself. Do the things that you love. Give your family the best parts of you. And occasionally let them sit on your back during your stretches.
✨ Fuel yourself with what makes you nourished and thrived to override what makes you depleted and deprived ✨
I read this somewhere recently and thought it was food for thought as we go into our weekend! It got me thinking about the whole concept of nourishment, and of course there is a lot more to this statement just being about food as fuel, we nourish ourselves in so many ways other than with food.
Now, for me, food is fuel, our bodies need food and water. But the process of eating food has become more than simply a function of survival, of eating enough to sustain life. Much of our socialising involves eating and drinking; from family meal times to friendly get togethers to business meetings and the like, there is often food involved. Sometimes there can be a lot of emotion tied up with this, it can affect people in different ways or not at all. Combined with all the different (sometimes contradicting) nutrition information out there in the public domain it can sometimes feel like something that should be so simple has become quite complex, but it doesn’t have to be.
Building a better relationship with how you fuel your body comes with creating an intention and matter of habit each day!
Here’s what I try to implement each day:
1. Lots of colour on my plate: a large variety of veggies of all colours, with a focus on greens! A feast for the eyes as well as the tummy 🥗
2. Each meal containing one or more good quality proteins e.g fish, meat, eggs; and grains (preferably wholegrains)
3. Not rushing. Taking time between bites and chewing each well. Coming with a mindset and intention of nourishment in all elements: Mental, physical and emotional, over just satisfaction of taste.
4. Drinking water with my meal. It helps me to stay adequately hydrated, and sipping in between bites also helps me to check in with my hunger signals and usually makes the meal more enjoyable.
5. An awareness of my resulting emotions from my meal✨ how has this made me feel?
A little shift towards a positive habit each day is all you need.
