But the caption where I found the photo commented that dobermans are actually really great dogs with cats, and very gentle, so it made me start to think about fear. How often do you contort yourself to be hidden because you are afraid of what is around the corner? Is the fear rational or irrational? 🚫🥜Happy 3 week no-peanut-versary to me!! 🥜🚫 . After reading my food sensitivity test results 3 weeks ago and seeing peanuts shown as my highest intolerance, I was majorly devastated. Peanut butter was life. Multiple times a day by itself and mixed into everything & anything. Like, serious "fave food" status. ❤ . I decided to bite the, uh, peanut and go cold turkey. Today marks the 3 week mark which means tomorrow I will eat pb again and see how I feel. Get this though: my skin cleared up nicely over the past 3 weeks (even during shark week), my tummy hasn't been bloated, and my eczema hasn't flared up once. 🤯 I'll have to see if eating pb changes any of these things. Stay tuned! . I have told so many people over the years that I could never stop eating peanuts even though I suspected it could be causing me issues. Tracking and logging your food through an app like MyFitnessPal is just one tool. - When you consider the overall context of any fitness journey, it’s actually a relatively small piece of the puzzle. - So why do I do it? - For me, I have specific goals that I want to achieve and that means being specific with my nutrition. - I look at food logging like balancing a checkbook. You want to know how much money you’re bringing in to make sure you can cover your expenses. - Tracking isn’t 💯 accurate but it’s consistent. It allows me to connect the dots with how much food, what kinds of food, and what macronutrient split feels best for my body. - It’s also a step towards learning to eat intuitively. We often hear people preaching intuitive eating, which is great, but it’s a skill. - Especially in today’s food environment. We’ve never lived in such a period of food abundance as we do today. We also have food that’s engineered to hijack our body’s natural satiety cues. Intuitive eating is challenging and tracking what you eat can help you reconnect to those signals. - However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Tracking every single thing that goes into your mouth can be tedious to say the least. It can cause obsessive behaviors and anxiety. - If you’re stressing over a couple grams on your food scale, it’s probably best to put the scale away. Same advice I would give a client who’s obsessing over their body weight each day. - Food logging can also be challenging when you have a social life. How do you know what that restaurant put in your dish? Or much alcohol you consumed? There are strategies around this but for a lot of people it’s a road block. - Whether you log your food or not, it’s important to remember that it’s just one tool. If you find it consuming your thoughts and mind, it might be time for a mental break. - This is also why I believe it’s worth investing in a coach to help navigate some of these issues. - So do you track your food? From my Hashimotos Thyroiditos, Fatty Liver, Asthma, Plantar Fasciitis, even shin splints. What I haven’t mentioned much was the bad arthritis is used to have as well as pre-diabetes. You see, what many people don’t realize is that when you are diagnosed with one autoimmune disorder, you are likely to really have more than one. The types of organs, muscles, and proteins attacked by your immune system will determine your autoimmune disease. For example, in Rheumatoid Arthritis, the antibodies attack your joints and bone tissues that cause severe inflammation and pain. The thyroid gland is affected in the Hashimoto's disease which causes hormone imbalance, leaving you vulnerable to many dangerous disabilities. Autoimmune conditions are also the harbinger of diabetes because the antibodies destroy insulin (sugar controlling hormones) which is responsible for controlling blood sugar levels. Seaweed every damn day, y’all... 🙂 In this case, filled with whatever was left the fridge. 🥕 🍅 🌿 I am not afraid to admit that I get so much more satisfaction from eating with my hands-- and nori is the perfect protein rich, and naturally gluten-free wrap to do the trick with just one ingredient: Nori. 🌊 Each nori sheet has 1 gram of plant protein... which is incredibly impressive given that it weighs less than 3 grams itself. (BTW-- 1 oz, or 28 grams of grilled chicken breast is 4.4 grams of protein... so yeah. Just putting that out there 🙂). 🌊 Seaweed also contains essential minerals including iodine, needed for hormonal balance and proper thyroid function, but also potassium and iron. ✨ 🌊 Spread with a little @majesticgarlic raw curry whipped garlic spread (it’s like mayo), and filled with greens, carrot slivers, cherry tomatoes and then rolled up for the perfect lazy girl burrito.  Made 8. 👌🏼 Ate 8. 🙌🏻 🌊 Followed it up with a turmeric smoothie from my last post, because apparently I was feeling like I needed a little turmeric in my life. 🌊 This is kind of like my life on repeat. People be like, “sugar is bad for you” or “eating late at night makes you fat” and I’m over here like, cookies at midnight in NYC? Absolutely yes. Disclaimer: I was NOT drinking. This was a sober decision ⚡️ • To quote @drbenhouse : “Sugar isn’t the devil and insulin surely isn’t either. Easily-accessible hyper-palatable foods are certainly a problem, but there is nothing intrinsic to sugar that somehow makes it more inflammatory than any other item you put in your mouth.” • Am I saying go on a sugar binge? No. But we need to stop demonizing sugar in our own diets and others. Don’t like it? Avoid it. Like it? Enjoy some. Eat whole foods, but also eat the cookie if you want it. And make sure your food and lifestyles choices reflect the life you want to be living. A cookie or some ice cream isn’t going to ruin your progress. When in reality, strictly avoiding certain foods might actually be hindering your progress. Perceived stress is a real thing, y’all. Stress from a fear of foods is also a real thing. I even sometimes make certain clients go enjoy some form of treat that they’re afraid of. Why? To show them that food doesn’t have power over them or destroy their gainz bro. So breathe, chill out, and lose the fear from food. It’s all going to be okay, I promise. • • Also, shout out to @milkbarstore for these bomb gluten free cookies. Trigger of Dysbiosis #1 Medications Welcome to day 1 of the Dysbiosis Modules. Over the next few days we are going to discuss the most common reasons imbalances in the gut micro biome exist. Lets start with Medications. The most significant ones include that negatively impact your gut flora are the following. . 1️⃣Antibiotics: This class of medications is the most common and significant cause of major alterations in normal GI tract flora.6 Depending upon the spectrum of antimicrobial activity, antibiotics can wipe out multiple categories of beneficial organisms, leading to dysbiosis. This is because antibiotics typically do not differentiate between the good guys and bad guys. Post antibiotic therapy we often see an overgrowth of existing flora such as yeast (Candida) and Clostridium difficile, resulting in potentially severe and life-threatening (in the case of C. difficile) systemic effects. . 2️⃣PPIs: Proton pump inhibitors block stomach acid (HCl) increasing your risk of dysbioiss as HCl is critical to the normal process of digestion and acts as defense against pathogens. PPIs are known to directly alter the gut flora as well. . 3️⃣NSAIDs: Chronic use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, aspirin, and indomethacin can inhibit the growth of good bacteria and alter the gut flora, resulting in leaky gut, which further perpetuates dysbiosis. . 4️⃣Hormone-Based Medications: According to Gut and Psychology Syndrome author Dr. Natasha Campbell- McBride, M.D., “The use of birth control pills and immune system-altering steroidal hormones change the gut flora by harming the beneficial bacteria.” Widespread use of hormone-based medication isn’t often mentioned yet is a significant contributor to dysbiosis. . While pharmaceutical medications absolutely have their place, ensure you absolutely need these interventions and seek natural alternative therapies where possible. In addition if you must take one of the above medications talk to your doctor about taking a probiotic during your treatment.
