Hair loss usually comes down to dietary factors, gut health,hormones and stress but not only that the shampoos/ conditioners etc. you use on your hair may also be the problem. Most today are jam packed with chemicals that disrupt our thyroid gland and the symptom of that can be hair loss, these synthetic shampoos also contain xenoestrogens that imitate oestrogen in our bodies. Too much oestrogen in our bodies is not good news. ☀️I love essential oils and tend to always look for brands that contain them because they are healing to the body & they contain many beauty benefits too. Here is an idea of some in the picture that can boost hair growth alongside a good diet & healthy gut of course. 😀 ☀️You can simply add a couple of drops to your shampoo when you wash your hair or you can make hair masks & leave to soak into the scalp. You must always use a carrier oil if you choose to do this. Here is a recipe idea you might want to try at home: 3 drops rosemary essential oil. 3 drops lavender essential oil. 2 drops thyme essential oil. 2 drops cedar wood essential oil. 4 drops grapeseed oil. 1/2 tsp. Jojoba oil. ☀️Mix all of the ingredients together and then rub into the scalp, especially the roots to nourish them. You can leave on for 30 minutes & then wash as normal. ☀️Synthetic shampoos are not good for our hair or health. Try new brands and see what you like. Here's a very healthy breakfast option! . Broccoli Egg Muffins . * 1 medium broccoli head, chopped into small florets * 6 large free range eggs * 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (or non-dairy option) * sea salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste * 1 Tbsp fresh minced garlic * 1/2 Tbsp smoked paprika * 1 tsp ground dry mustard * 1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional) . Instructions . 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees f. 2. Line a muffin pan with parchment papers (I like to lightly spray these liners with coconut oil spray, or something similar) 3. In a large glass bowl, whisk together the eggs, yogurt, sea salt, black pepper, garlic and seasonings. 4. Stir in the broccoli and the cheese. 5. Spoon the broccoli mixture, evenly to the prepared muffin pan. 6. Day 6/56 Another good day and my legs are officially dead! 🤣 I’m glad tomorrow is a rest, because my muscles need it. I’m going to be on vacation starting tomorrow , but I’m bringing my workouts with me. Some people might think I’m insane or obsessed, but working out is what centers me. You can ask any of my family members, especially my husband, if I don’t work out for a few days I’m not a nice person to be around. 🤣 I’ll actually be able to enjoy myself more if I have that “me time” in the mornings. A little over 3 years ago I made an uncharacteristic move😂.... I signed up for a network marketing company that has cutting edge products that help people heal their #gut . . Seeking help when needed doesn’t make us week, it makes us that much stronger. BUT, always remember that the one person who can help you the most is YOURSELF.
Day 7: Part 1 It’s ok to admit to ourselves that we are not ok and need help. We are human beings which makes us perfectly imperfect. This means there are always going to be good times and there will always be struggles. That’s just the reality of how it works. So, if you think you need help then don’t wait any longer and seek the help you need because wasting away in misery is not fun. Do what you gotta do, let go of the past and move forward. Even when we feel like things can’t get better they ALWAYS can. ✌️💕

#selfcaresaturday sometimes looks like this! I've got my tissues, my water bottle, my meds, my pillows, my comforter, my companion dog Bella, my stuffed animal to cuddle, my laptop and phone, and a fan going with the AC on. And guess what? I'm not really planning on doing anything other than resting and recovering some spoons* for the entire day. As I shared in my video this morning, working for two days after not having worked or gone to school for 3+ years completely wrecked me. And I'm not posting this to complain or get sympathy. It is just a fact: my body is attacking itself because it's all pissy I went out and decided to live my life regardless 😅. It's part of chronic illness. It's part of life. Anyone can appreciate what a sudden change in routine can do to your body, and other spoonies will appreciate just how little a change needs to be in order to make a big impact. That being said, I plan to take care of myself today. Drink lots of water, eat whole foods, take my meds, take some advil because going from mostly sedentary to on my feet 8+ hours has made everything ache in ways I didn't think they would, and take time to sleep and recover with some of my comfort items. Vitamin D has important roles in muscle function . TLDR; Avoid vitamin D deficiency or make your muscles slower, weaker, and smaller . Exploring one aspect here that I’ve been researching lately - it’s connection with SERCAs . SERCAs help to remove calcium (Ca2+) from cells - and the faster you can remove Ca2+, the faster a cell can relax, and the faster it can ‘fire’ (nerves) or contract (muscles) again . If you’re into shooting - think of SERCAs as determining your reloading speed . Faster reloading, faster firing rate. . A high number of SERCAs tend to be associated with faster twitch muscle that’s important for POWER . Typically when we’re thinking about fast or slow twitch muscle, we’re thinking of myosin heavy chain (MHC) proteins that determine the muscle contraction speed or endurance . Depending on the paper and model you look at, the correlation between SERCAs and MHC expression is between 0.67 and 0.97 - with 1.00 being a perfect 1:1 relationship . In other words - if you’ve got SLOW muscle with slow MHCs, you’re likely to have a LOW number of SERCAs (and less of the extra fast SERCA1s) . If you’ve got FAST muscle you’re likely to have a HIGH number of SERCAs (and more SERCA1) alongside your fast-type MHC proteins . Similar to hypothyroidism, a deficiency of vitamin D decreases the number of SERCA proteins . In some cases a lower number of SERCAs might improve efficiency and endurance (because doing things fast takes a lot of energy) - but it might also increase the vulnerability to cell exhaustion or death in other circumstances (when excess Ca2+ in the cell, for too long, causes problems) . My name is Jessica and this is the first day of the rest of my life, well- tomorrow will be lol 😂 I was diagnosed with Hashimoto after the birth of my second 🧒 I went to the doctor with a fist full of hair in my hand, 40 extra lbs gained, tired w/ no energy and extremely scared. . . . . . After months of meds and no improvement I started to dig deeper and was introduced to the autoimmune protocol diet. After many failed attempts I have decided the time is now. Throughout our fitness journeys, we come across accomplishments that aren’t tied to weight loss. We call these non-scale victories. And throughout my fitness journey, I’ve experienced a few of these so far; increased energy and uplifted mood, just to name a few. However, I believe I just experienced my BIGGEST non-scale victory thus far. . . I’ve struggled with my thyroid issues my whole life. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease in the 6th grade, ultimately leading to hypothyroidism, and have been on medication every single day since. I’ve struggled to keep my TSH levels in the normal range and have bounced back and forth between dosage sizes a few time. I am not a fan of meds, I don’t even take Advil or Tylenol, so coming off this medication has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. . . When I first started this fitness journey 4 months ago, they tested my TSH level, which came back at a 5.63, well over the normal limit. They up’ed my dosage and required another test in a few months. In the mean time, I focused on my health and fitness routine. Working out and eating healthy became a regular occurrence because I was dedicated to my program. Well, just last week I went in for another test, and my level had dropped significantly, to 0.04.My DR was impressed and shocked all at the same time. He’s dropped my dosage and is requesting another test in a few weeks. . . This just goes to show that your health and fitness isn’t just about looking good in a bathing suit...it’s about treating your body right so it can perform at its optimum and so that disease can struggle to exist. 💪🏻

This picture was taken in June at Rendezvous Point in the Tetons but it captures how I felt when I got out of Radioactive Iodine Isolation yesterday. 🎉 For those of you searching #thyroidcancer hashtags I remember searching that hashtag every single day. At the time I thought I was trying to learn more about it from people going through it. In retrospect I know what I was looking for was hope. I wanted to see the good stories. I wanted assurance that everything was going to be ok. I had a hard time accepting my diagnosis. I thought I was in the best shape of my life but in January I got the call it was cancer. In March I had a total thyroidectomy and last week I had a radioactive iodine treatment. I was terrified of the radioactive iodine - in fact I was still contemplating not taking it minutes before I swallowed the pill. Yesterday I ended my isolation from RAI. Side effects may still occur but so far it has not been bad. I will have to be tested and scanned for many years but I am taking it one day at a time. So my advice for someone beginning the journey? Take a deep breath - it will be ok! Educate yourself. Be your own advocate - ask a lot of questions and if it takes a long time to get an appointment call every day for cancellations. If you have to do RAI be sure to join @thelidlifecommunity on Facebook. This group is the best tool for the low iodine diet and goes way beyond the outdated handouts you may receive from the doctor. My advice for everyone else? Get annual checkups and blood tests.
