Lorna Shore - Flesh Coffin: What’s up y’all it’s been a while since I did one of these. I’ve been very busy with... well, nothing. But I’m back and that’s all that matters. Lorna Shore is a blackened deathcore band from Warren County, NJ. They formed in 2010 and released this album, their 2nd, in 2017. It is the final album with founding member and vocalist Tom Barber as he joined Chelsea Grin to replace Alex Koehler. Flesh Coffin opens with a personal favorite of the album “Offering Of Fire”. Tom wrote this song about a friend of his who boarded his basement up and lit himself on fire, killing himself. The dark lyrics continue for the rest of the album and add to the eeriness of the music. The chorus of this track is the real standout for me. It’s follow up “Denounce the Light” has a monstrous breakdown that is truly one of the best breakdowns in all of deathcore. The two tom hits with chugs and the pause let you know some shit’s about to go down. And the shit goes down harder than you could even imagine. Halfway through the record we get to “FVNERAL MOON”, the best song on the album. Again these lyrics are so deep and thought provoking and reading along takes you on this insane journey (each song separately). Another massive breakdown with a sweet solo after it and it’s pretty much just another song on Flesh Coffin. I say that yet the record isn’t repetitive at all. They find creative ways to bring the same thing in, differently. I love the raw production style on this album as it adds to the black metal tinging this deathcore record. It’s truly much more than just any old deathcore album and a must listen for any extreme music fan.
