Waking up to a view like this every morning = life complete 💯
When you’ve got views like this on offer in the outdoors it’s really hard to resist the urge to take a walk outside.

Tongariro is by far the most popular national park in the North Island, attracting tens of thousands of skiers, walkers and trampers every year. The park centres around three active volcanoes: Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu, all of which are considered by local Maori to be sacred ancestors. In 1887 the chief of the local iwi Ngati Tuwharetoa, Horonuku Te Heuheu Tukino IV, gifted the peaks to the government as the basis for the country’s first national park. The mountains continue to play an important spiritual role for both Tuwharetoa and another iwi, Ngati Rangi. In recognition of their strong spiritual links to the volcanoes, in 1993 the park became the first to receive joint World Heritage Status for both its landscape and cultural values.#tongariro #tongarirocrossing #tongarironationalpark #mtruapehu
Hiking Tongariro was the highlight of my travels around the North Island.
What a great weather-dependant spontaneous adventure this turned out to be. #tongarirocrossing
Up to 2000 people a day can walk the Tongariro crossing in summer so we strapped on some crampons and picked up an ice axe and skipped the line.
Clear night skies and hard frosts made perfect bluebird conditions. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. Not one!
Homemade bread for breakfast anyone? 🥖☕️
Out on a long cold journey. 😁 This is my happy place. What's yours???
We entered the valley as we walked away from Mordor.
No, but seriously the Tongariro Crossing was one of the more exciting hikes I did. When me and my amazing hiking buddies arrived to the base of the mountain the whole thing was covered in clouds and fog. We continued our trek anyway as weather promised to be nicer. And man did we get lucky, as soon as we began to ascend to the very top all the clouds and fog rolled out leaving epic views. The mountain in the background is called Mt Ngauruhoe and it is famously known for being mordor in the LOTR films, but among locals this stratovolcano is very sacred, hence why you can't actually climb to Mordor. If you go to New Zeland and get the chance to scale this mountain trek, do it! (When the weather permits!! Safety first). #tongarirocrossing #mordor #greatweather #mtngauruhoe
Its almost summer which means it's the best time to do Tongariro Alpine Crossing 🙌

🎵 These are the places you will find me hiding, these are the places I will always go 🎵
12.1 mile Tongariro Alpine Crossing on New Zealand’s north island. This duel world heritage site is consistently ranked as one of the top day hikes in the world. The volcanic activity brings the trail to life with sulphuric discharge and noxious gas present at every turn. Yup, that is Mt. Doom (LOTR) in the back and 40 mph wind on our faces. We definitely earned the notch on our world traveling belt on this day!
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is voted one of the top 10 hikes in the world! Situated in the north island of New Zealand, this is a “must do” with views of volcanoes and emerald lakes. This is also Mount Doom from lord of the rings!
Tip - Make sure you leave a couple of days either side. Reason being when the winds pick up, it tends to be cancelled. This way you can hopefully do it the next day 😉🤓🙌
📍Tongariro crossing, New Zealand
