Flashback Friday: Coincidence
After I made it to the ballot for Celtman, the biggest task at hand was to figure out a support runner. I was late in posting the FB group & lost out on all the volunteers who had raised their hands earlier
I had posted about my Celtman ballot on @instagram
earlier this year & had put a few images from the previous year's competition. I got a ping from a gentleman who mentioned that he was the featured athlete in one of those pics. And the conversation began - @downierobin
was participating in @cxtri
2018 and I sought his help for a support runner. After some weeks, he confirmed that a runner from his village has volunteered for the task. He introduced me to wee @kenny.murray68
& we exchanged several notes before the race day. He often would send me pics from his recce runs
Fast forward to race week. After a pit stop at Oban, we were driving down to Kinlochewe. It was pouring like crazy & just when we took a turn towards the road to Loch Charron, I was just telling my wife that this is where Kenny and Robin live. Just seconds after, we spotted a cyclist ahead of us in an aggressive riding position. I knew he was riding a TT bike & was def one of the participants doing a training ride. We drove past him & just had a second to catch a glimpse of him .
I couldn't believe, I traced that look back to @downierobin
, who I had just interacted virtually through texts all this along. I parked the car on the left & to avoid scandalising him, just waited for him to pass again so that I could reconfirm it was him. He slowed down & as he crossed, he turned to have a look at who was in the car. That split second when both of us recognised each other & realised that what are the odds of meeting like this!
Got outside the car & were happy to meet each other. Exchanged some notes before moving on. Later in reaching Kinlochewe, I met Kenny at our apartment
What a series of coincidences and what are the chances of meeting someone in the other part of the world like this. A minute here or there and we would have missed each other
Robin went on to secure a top 10 slot in the race & I have promised Kenny to be back in 2020
