- Altered Skyscape
A cloud in the sky, with a single electric power line in the foreground.
The most striking juxtaposition of Nature’s glory and Man’s will that I've ever had the privilege to see and capture.
1. Alfred Stieglitz’s series Equivalents;
2. Wassily Kandinsky’s theoretical treatises "On the Spiritual in Art" and "Point and Line to Plane";
3. Minimalist art (especially Lucio Fontana);
4. Nick Brandt’s series "Inherit the Dust". Especially important is the connection to Nick Brandt. In "Inherit the Dust", Nature appears as a small element of the image, suppressed on all sides by an artificial and hostile human world. Here, it’s the other way around: Nature (the sky and cloud) is shown in full glory and occupies the entire image, but it is split apart and altered beyond repair by the single, thin, black power line – a sign of forceful human intervention.
