Don’t ever underestimate the power of your mind. . The mind is constantly seeking to find proof of what you believe (and how you are feeling) . If you want the things around you to dictate how you feel, then just keep looking around you and reacting (it’s not necessarily wrong, you just don’t have much control.) . If you want to dictate how you feel and what you accomplish in your life, then all your focus has to go within. Your mind, your emotional state, your thoughts. . A lot of you already know this, but like me, you sway in and out of this focus. . And that’s really the underlying reason we are or are not accomplishing our goals (or even feeling like we are on a SOLID path to get there). . I’m learning more and more that the key to success in fitness, careers, relationships etc. Comes down to one thing: . Getting our MIND on board every single day. . Training it just as much as we train our physical body... maybe even more. . No, not maybe. Definitely more. . That’s all I’ve got today. That’s what I have been thinking about a lot recently. . #TipTuesday If you’re confident that your athleticism and technique won’t let you down, you can focus on how to best make them count.
First and foremost, why is my forehead so big?! 😩 Second, I want to address my anxiety issue because people keep asking me about it, relating to the gym, since I mention it often and I know others deal with it, too. Basically, it’s who I am as a person. Most social situations make me nervous. It’s not just mental. My whole body reacts. My heart rate goes up, I get hot, and I blush. I’m a true introvert at heart and looooove being by myself. In most cases, I KNOW my thoughts are “ridiculous” but I cannot just “not think about it” and live like “a normal person”. It is true I am more concerned with men, probably because of my past negative experience with them and I know what they are capable of. I think I am naturally more guarded with my emotions and all that 💩... family, friends, and just life events in general have turned up that guard up a notch. I have improved tremendously since even high school/college. Back then, I would never even go to any store by myself. Eat by myself?! Nope! I always had my mom or a friend with me. Over the years, I have traveled by myself to other states. I go out and have lunch or dinner by myself. I don’t wait for others to do things I want to do. At work I need to talk to people I don’t know or lead meetings. I still hate eye contact or talking to people, but I am more capable of pushing past it and getting it done. Baby steps 👣... My “gym anxiety” is bad because I still worry about people correcting what I’m doing or someone coming to talk to me... about anything 🤣. Don’t talk to me about the weather or ask me how many sets I have left 😂. I like to wear leggings and a tank top because that’s what I’m comfortable working out in and you can move easily. I have tried wearing a hoodie and baggy pants to “hide more” after a guy stopped me like 2 or 3 years ago and told me to not wear fitting clothes if I don’t want people to talk to me 😒. He was an asshole to say the least. I love social media because I can hide behind a screen and post whatever I want and interact with or inspire people without actually having to deal with people 😅
Paradox 3: “Kill it with kindness” (from an Aussie old soul). Hate will never be solved with more hate. We fight against so many things, and for righteous reasons! But “fighting against” something gives it power, fuels negativity on both sides and usually things turn ugly. (I’m thinking of what’s happening in my home country, especially now...). I’m guilty of focusing on what’s fucked up in this world, so I find myself drowning in hate and negative thinking only to end up whining and believing I can’t make a difference. That type of behaviour is getting me NOWHERE though so I’m reminding myself to accept what I deem shit, unfair, unjust and instead of mirroring back the same emotions (which only perpetuates the cycle) I try to change the way I think, talk, act and send back love and understanding. Being flexible with your workouts is something that is crucial. Today was supposed to be weight lifting day. However, with the muscles clearly tired and in need of some rest, I scrapped the plan and switched to cardio. I've been neglecting cardio lately and for someone looking to shed fat, it needs my full attention. This little machine is very similar to a spin class only technology is leading the class and you don't have someone shouting over you every 2 minutes. It's a great workout as long as you stick to the instructions and follow with RPM guide. When your having a good day, it's important to hit the gym and keep the momentum going. What’s on your playlist? For me its usually rap with some heavy bass that gets me fired up. But sometimes on longer cardio days I actually like to listen to podcasts. I sometimes do this on longer drives during work as well or when travelling between cities. I love learning about business and business development and @garyvee and @grantcardone are two names that come to mind for podcasts that I listen to frequently. I was listening to a podcast during yesterday’s cardio session: Learn More to Earn More. It talked about how the average person with a Master’s Degree will make $1,000,000 more by retirement than the average person who only has a high school diploma. While this isn’t true for everyone this really shows you the importance of creating a culture of learning in your life. To be successful in anything in life including the gym requires lifelong education and that doesn’t necessarily mean school. Two different things. I know that had I known what I know now about training and eating and applied it consistently I probably wouldn’t have gone as long as I did spinning my wheels. The more you learn, the more you earn. It's really important for you to train every possible muscle in your body, while there are some which are most commonly worked on being the most popular ones like arms. All aspire to have big arms being an epitome of masculinity; a pair of big robust and muscular arms are something many die for... But there are more things to be worked on when we are planing to have a solid pair of arms. When we talk of arms we broadly mean biceps and triceps but there is more to it... Since then I've gain a lot of muscle & some definition. 2015-2016 was pretty good. 2017- 2018 was great!! Do you follow through? Im challenged with this EVERY SINGLE DAY. Following through. The last rep, last 15min, end of the week, end of that project, when you are exhausted its HARD. That’s actually when you change! I can promise you, if you can follow through just a little bit longer, it will make all the difference. If you don’t follow through in the gym or your nutrition I can almost bet it shows up in other areas of your life too. Start strong, finish strong. Its not easy, but its necessary if you want change. Whats harder following through in the gym or nutrition?

This book has been calling to me for months and I just finally now gave in. . Do you ever feel that way about books? 📚 . I’ve been on a spiritual journey for the past couple of years that I’ve finally started to get clarity and direction on — and therefore will be talking more about (blog post coming soon - hold me to it). . This book is coming at a perfect time. Just two chapters in and I’m already like 🤯🤯🤯 . Take this piece for example: “You will come to see that the mind talks all the time because you gave it a job to do. You use it as a protection mechanism, a form of defense... In the name of attempting to hold the world together, you’re really just trying to hold yourself together. True personal growth is about transcending the part of you that is not okay and needs protection.” . Do you know how TRUE those words are? For me, for you, for your difficult family member, your best friend, your partner. That chatter in your mind, the way you process and make sense of what happens around you, has a job to do - protection. But protection isn’t always, or usually, what we need. Instead, we need to take risks, be vulnerable, let people in. . I have a task for you today. You up for it? Notice how that voice in your head is continually talking to you. Don’t judge it.
