When I was 13, about a week after coming out to my mum for the first time, I was in a park with my sister near where we live, and these guys came up to us (like 7 of them, probably like 16/17) and one of them said "Excuse me, but r u a boy or a girl?" At the time I dressed always in typical "boys clothes" with the same baseball cap on backwards because I hadn't cut my hair yet, but I didn't have a binder and my way of binding was with 2 training bras but it wasn't done very well so my chest was still pretty obviously there.
So I looked over at my sister (11 at the time, and I was out to her too) and she whispered to me to tell him I was a boy so I said that i was a boy and he said "So you're one on those trannies?" And i said "...yeah I guess." so then he turned back to his mates and they all started shouting and laughing and saying I was a tranny, so we moved away to a different part of the park. Then a different guy from the same group came over and said "So is that girl (my sister) your girlfriend?" To which me and my sister obviously told him no and could he fuck off, to which he started telling his mates she was my girlfriend and making these dumbass jokes so we moved away again.
Fast forward like 5 mins and they all come back again over to where we are, and the same one that came the first time says "So you're, like, transgender yh?" and I said yes, and he said "So you're a boy?" And i said yes, to which he said "Ok then take off your shirt so we can see what you really are." So I turned to my sister and she just got off the balance beam thing we were standing on and started walking off so I went with her, but they were following us round the park telling me to take my shirt off to see if I was a boy of a girl and shouting that I was a tranny, so in the end we just met back with my mum (on the other end of the park) and told her we needed to go home now, and we'd explain later, so we left.
It freaked me out a, yh, I won't lie. If it happened now I'd probably be ok, but I guess 13 year old me was a bit shook. I don't understand how some people think smth like that is a rational thing to do but..oof
