Spent some time yesterday visiting one of my favorite rooms/group of paintings in America, Thomas Cole's "Voyage of Life" series at @ngadc.
This is the first painting of four, depicting "Childhood", followed by "Youth", "Manhood", and "Old Age". Choosing to ignore the religious overtones, it's a moving allegory of the human experience (and the idealized American experience), forging past temptations and aligning with one's highest self to live a meaningful life. I could've easily spent an hour in this room, but @benshawesome
strategically distracted me with an 18th c. dog portrait.
