Seeing the news of XXXTentacion passing yesterday was very sad for me well as heartbreaking for the majority of hip-hop fans. Ever since his rise to fame X has been the most controversial figure in the genre, either if you were with him or against him, you can’t deny the man had talent and so much untapped potential. 20 years of life isn’t nearly long enough, especially for someone of the potential of XXXTentacion. Going back to the spring of last year when he was released from prison I became a fan of X and was riding the wave as I genuinely enjoyed his music and still do. For me the thing that stood out for me was how raw his music was, from his strong emotion on tracks like Vice City to all-out cutthroat approach on songs like RIP Roach, the man knew how to deliver on a track. Besides being so young, the amount of untapped potential will be the hardest to say goodbye to.
As for my final statement, thank you, X. Even if your music wasn’t always my favorite all the time, it has a special place in my heart. During my big health scares X’s music was a mainstay in my rotation and for that thank you. Rest easy XXXTentacion, 20 is way too young.
PUT THE GUNS DOWN, WE DON’T NEED THEM IN OUR COMMUNITIES OR LIVES.
