I’ve been slack on the IG updates lately, but this is one I’ve really been wanting to share...
October 30th, 2018 would have been @ruthfastwalking
‘s 36th birthday. To honor her & to celebrate her, @kkomenda
and I went to see the @tuneyards
play at @massmoca
. The Tuneyards is a band that Ruth and I both loved and listened to often together driving around Oakland in my “sweet chariot” 28 year old Honda Accord, and then living together in Northampton over the next years. Because of the precious memories that are attached to The Tuneyards music, going to their show felt like the most perfect thing to do on Ruth’s Birthday...
There are so many things to say next: how profoundly loved I feel by @kkomenda
, how even though they never got to meet Ruth they deeply feel our story, our love, the impact of our soulmatedness and Ruth’s early departure from this life. What I didn’t know was that @kkomenda
had reached out to the Tuneyards’ tour manager the day before the show, told them a little bit about Ruth and I & the importance of the 10/30 performance, & asked if they could pass the note on to Merrill. They said that they would, but also told Kel that they get a lot of requests and so they shouldn’t get their hopes up...
When Merrill then gave Ruth and I this shoutout before their last song I was audibly shocked and humbled and so very moved. That Merrill felt compelled to say something, and that they were so affected by the little that @kkomenda
had shared with them, was deeply impactful for me. They then played this beautiful rendition of “Look Around” for Ruth and I...
What an amazing, beautiful, incredible tribute. Thank you, thank you, @tuneyards
for such a memorable evening in so many ways. And to @kkomenda
— I will never understand how I got so lucky to be loved by you and to love you, but isn’t it sweet to think that maybe, somehow, Ruth had something to do with it... 💖
