David Byrne ending his show with Janell Monáe’s “HELL YOU TALMBOUT” #blacklivesmatter
I was delighted to see one of my favorite bands, the inimitable tune-yards, opening for David Byrne last night. Such a great pairing!

Thank you David Byrne for closing your show with this!
Last night was one of the most incredible concerts I’ve ever seen!
It was brilliant. It was captivating. It was art!
But this! This was hands down the most important part of the entire evening. David Byrne and his band closed out their show with Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout,” a song honoring the names of black Americans killed by police and white vigilantes, followed by chanting the phrase "say his name,” “say her name,” or “say their name.”
David himself has said this is his favorite song and the most important part of his show. I absolutely agree.

Some friends ask why I go to so many shows. My response is to see the band’s creativity, their music come to life and you never know what you might see. Last night, David Byrne put on a performance piece, not a concert, that should set a bar all artists try to match. His music is always incredible, but married with the creativity of the lighting, choreography, no set stage positions, appearance of a minimal stage and more, he created a work of art that should go directly into the MOMA. I can’t say it was the best show I’ve ever been to because it was way more than a concert. Tune-Yards opened and played in the encore and were awesome.
The David Byrne + Tune Yards show is the most well-crafted and beautifully artistic show I’ve seen (and I’ve seen Beyoncé 4 times). The music, the art, the choreography is stunning. Have some shaky video highlights and oh, I also spotted an alien on my way home.
David Byrne rescued me from commercialism more than once. Always providing the unexpected, he taught me what artists do. Can’t wait for the show! I hope he plays I Zimbra, creatures of love, this must be the place, walk It down, Air, cities,...ahhhh! Thanks Shira ❤️🕺🏽🎱
Tune Yards. They are a pretty unique and fun band. Landmark Theater, Syracuse #tuneyards
