So, in September 2017, I got picked to act as a mutant resident of “Genosha” in what would become the new X-Men movie “Dark Phoenix”, in Montréal. I can’t fully explain how intense acting on a major Hollywood film set felt, with major celebrities; but I’ll try. Top 5 interesting things about this experience (because insta doesn’t give me enough room for everything Id love to share!):
⚫️ The place where they keep all the costumes is mind blowing; it was in this enormous film hangar called Mel’s Studio. (See pic) No makeup allowed for this role. ⚫️They had us sign a very threatening contract to keep quiet about everything we saw. They would monitor our social media. Phones were banned from set, and the movie was called “Teen Spirit” on imdb to ward off any media attention until shooting was complete (which took years). ⚫️I was shooting for 1 week total. Waking up at 4am & staying on set late into the night. This week of shooting translated in 2 minutes of film time. It was very difficult conditions because we were exhausted, had to obey orders, acting in the blaring heat midsummer, and the set/actions taking place we’re quite dangerous. (I.e: helicopter explosions feet away from me). ⚫️Michael Fassbender did his own stunts. He was kind & handsome (obvi) & many other major actors on set were very friendly (sharing shade umbrellas). It was shocking how they never acted with each other; it was always a stand in for Jean Grey with Michael Fassbender, and a stand in for Magneto with Sophie Turner. It felt not organic to me, but they acted wonderfully nonetheless. Witnessing these intimate scenes live, literally a foot away, was fantastic. ⚫️But in all honesty, meeting the other local Genosha actors was my fondest memories. Tv is a lot of “hurry up & wait”, and I got to meet & get close with the most interesting eclectic humans ever. Im deeply touched by this intense journey we shared. @dovaa_l @winsloh @antoine_vign
*the food on set was dope *the set decor was stunning but had toxic gmo’ed sprayed fruits & vegetables that were enormous for the lush forest commune vibe & we were all feeling not the best on set. *I should probably go see the actual movie now, k bye.
