Happy Fri-yay!! 🤸🏻♀️🎉 Managed to hit my 3rd day in a row of early runs and today was definitely the toughest. My mind tried to rationalize that I could rest today and switch my easy 4 miler to Sunday. But, then the thought of getting to sleep in extra late Sunday if I sucked it up this morning got me out the door. What’s even better is that the temperature felt almost cold as I stepped out the door this morning. Maybe this heat wave is finally breaking! 🎉🙌🏻
This ain’t no shoulder with a chip or an ego so why you think they all mad at me for. 💜 12 miles in not ideal conditions but maintained GMP! Last long run and crossed 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ miles this year!

No run planned today today, so unless something changes, it is my rest day.
Inside the bag I have race number, number clips, inhaler, poncho, spare socks, blister stick, blister plasters, Vaseline (😬), 3 battery packs (yes I will be story-ing this!), phone charging cables, Garmin charging cable, headband. Just need to add food and away we go.
Nervous I might DNF 🙈 .

... Ive been nervous about this workout all week. Not the distance, but the pace. Its faster than I have run in months… A LOT OF MONTHS. Im not going to lie, for some reason I have this fear that’s surfaced with faster paces. Rather than dwell on it, I put my big girl pants on…. Looked at my goal time for the marathon and headed out the door. I remembered the little girl I once was that used to love the 800. This first pic is from 1999, Mt Sac Invitational, in the invite 800m. Lots of the fastest 800m girls in the state were in this race, and I had made it. I worked hard to be there and I finally made it in, my senior year. I don’t remember my time or my place. To be honest, I actually don’t remember anything about this race. But I have this cool pic that makes me believe and remember that hard work does pay off. It took me 4 years to get invited to this race. 4 years. I know that running is not linear but I do believe that with hard work, I can reach my goals, just like I did my senior year of high school.
Im so proud of my morning. I let my lungs burn for the first time in a long time. I kept my stride strong and did my best not to break down. Overall, strong workout. I’ve still got my runners high and sore quads from Sunday’s race 😂👍🏻 Race recap (for those who care)😊: it was a morning of running in the rain! We were all soaked but luckily the temps were in the 50s (and not the 30s like at Boston). This race is a trail run so it got really muddy and I saw a lot of runners fall. I bet I ran through 20+ puddles 😂 🤦🏼♀️ At mile 22 I passed the 3:30 pacer for a 3:29:23 finish! This is what an ice bath starts like 😱(left) and how it finally becomes tolerable 😨(right). I literally got in and out of the bathtub 3 times screaming before I backed myself into the bath and slowly put my legs in. My feet were the worst so I left them out. Fortunately I had Julian dancing and singing to my Spotify playlist with me so that helped the time go by. I stayed in for 20 minutes total. I am still shaking like a 🍁. Next time I conquer the immediate and repeated NO response and submerge 😬

today i was crossing broad street almost seventeen miles into my eighteen mile run. while i was waiting for the light to change, a man walked up to me and asked how far i had left to go. i told him only one more mile. he then asked how far i’d already gone, and i told him seventeen.
usually, people are shocked to hear someone say they’re out running eighteen miles, but he wasn’t. he said “i walk along broad every day, and i see you all out here running so far. and you always look tired, but you also look happy, so it must be a good thing, maybe i’ll try it out myself”
the light changed and my walk signal lit up. i waved goodbye and told him to enjoy the rest of his day and he told me to enjoy my last mile. and for that final mile i couldn’t help but think about how RIGHT he was!
runners are a different breed of human. we physically exhaust ourselves for fun. being on our feet, pounding the pavement for hours on end is tiring, but it makes us happy, and people notice.
so the next time you’re out there logging some miles, whether it be two or twenty-two, know that you’re setting an example for everyone that passes you, that health and physical fitness are important to you, that they make you happy, and maybe in that moment you’re inspiring someone to take the first step in their own journey 💕🏃🏻♀️

Is anyone else thoroughly ready for the weekend?! 🙋♀️ I know, I know, don’t wish your life away. But my week has consisted of officially starting my part-time MBA program in the evenings and I feel too old and tired for this s#!t. It’s hard getting home around 10pm and trying to immediately shut my brain down for bed. As a morning runner, I’m used to being in bed by this time (hey - whatever works right?!) OH WELL - I’m over my complaints because I realize these are small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, especially after seeing a hurricane destroy a notable portion of our state. So I’ll just be over here (DRINKING COFFEE) and I’ll keep on, keepin’ on. 👌
While today obviously wasn't about pace, I love that my running app recorded me at "9:60". I guess it was trying to soften the blow. Thanks for that, but I'm not really that fragile (OK, I am). Today was about hills. Struble Wall x 6, thank you very much.
I love this Zevon cover by The War On Drugs. Heard it for the first time today. Before playing it, Adam told the story of how he "discovered " the song a few years ago and became obsessed with it. He said he'd listen to it 15 times a day for months. The band got invited to play a charity benefit during this period and the night before the gig Adam decided to work up a cover. The band practiced all night and got it perfect. But when it came time to perform it at the benefit show, Adam looked at the crowd and Jackson Browne was standing right in front. Jackson produced the original and sang backup vocals so Adam immediately freaked out and forgot the words. They abandoned the song halfway through. He said they never tried playing live again until this radio interview. Fortunately Jackson wasn't there, and they nailed it. It was sad and haunting and perfect. They've played it live a few times since this interview. I found a good version and linked it in my profile if you want to check it out.
I try not to post too much about running but it is literally all I do these days... 🤦🏻♀️. BUT- I ran 6 miles before 6:00 am this morning, and I never thought I would have the mental strength to do that sort of thing when I started training for this marathon back in July. BUT YA GIRL DOES. This post is dedicated to all those who wrongly believe that #running
extensively will eat up your muscles. Well, I DONT THINK SO! I haven't been in a gym since April 2017 and my muscles are stronger now than when I used to lift. Running is the perfect sport and if you know how to train properly and mostly how to fuel your body (real food that is) you won't lose your muscle mass but you can still build and maintain it without all those fad diets based mainly on protein shakes, food substitutes, fake puddings, etc . Real food, great carbs, proteins , healthy fats as well as indulging in cheat meals will balance the whole thing. If you deprive your body of some macros, you'll end up binging . Flexibility in your diet is key. Flexibility builds balance . When you train you need energy, real energy, real food. Or your body will end up responding negatively and you won't get the results you are after 💪💪 run and eat, eat and run 🏃♀️

Pic 1: Today was one of THOSE runs. Couldn't find the next gear, legs felt like lead weights. I think I'm still paying for Sunday's pace which in retrospect was too fast. On top of that, its was unbearably humid and a thousand bugs smashed into my face and landed in my mouth. But at 7.5 miles I got fed up and just started running as hard as I could. I passed a guy from my gym going the other direction and he gave me a high five. That really boosted me. Very pleased to finish a challenging run strong.
