In Paris, it’s okay to be a flâneur; to dream, to walk along and stop in a cafe. It’s okay to take your time. It’s okay to abandon plans and itineraries.
People come to Paris and they want to climb the steps of The Arc de Triumph, then climb the steps of Notre Dame, then climb the steps of the Eiffel Tower. All with some other tourist’s sweaty ass inches from your face.
Should you climb the steps of the Eiffel Tower? That could be cool. But let me offer this idea up instead: If you really want that iconic picture, you could wake up early. Get to Trocadero when it’s just you and the brides and grooms and the wedding photographers. Quickly get a photograph of yourself. Total time investment: seven minutes. Then go have a coffee across the street at La Carette. Sit at an outside table and just watch as the city comes alive. Never mind what you had planned to do today.
