The Power House, Maybeury, #westvirginia
I couldn’t find much history but I’m gonna tell it before I tell my ghost story. It was built by the Pocahontas coal company to power the coal mines that surround it. It might have been feed from a mine right behind it. After the mass mining stopped it was sold to the Appalachian Electric Company and closed. The remaining mines power currently comes from the dam across the new river in Pulaski County, VA.
This was my last stop of a long day checking out McDowell county. It once a large coal mining area, with a population of 100,000 in the 50’s and currently its more like 20,000. I’m not trying make anyone mad, but it was my first time there and it was a little spooky. I spent all day getting in buildings and taking pics, getting scared by a dog that snuck up on me. My nerves where shot. Then I get in here. I hear it, my gf hears it. Someone’s whistling. And it wasn’t short, went on a tune for at least 30 seconds. It didn’t sound like a person whistling, it had an distorted sound, like an old record. The floor was covered in debris, but the only foot steps we heard where ours.
