The main purpose for this Instagram account is to help encourage and support Parents to get outside and enjoy the trails with their children. When I started out hiking w my bonus baby it was unfamiliar and intimidating. I’d never baby carried before.
People will tell you it’s not a good idea to take your baby into the woods and you should wait until your child gets older. People will tell you it’s too hard carrying a baby or a toddler up anything that’s not flat. People will say what you want to do is insane. I received more negative feedback when I started hiking w my 8 month old than I did positive. Way more! I assume others probably do too, which is discouraging. I’m here to say you can.
Being a parent of a little person is a life altering experience. I know starting to hike with littles is daunting at first. I know it’s a hassle to get everything packed up to take a child into the great wild yonder. I know it can be hard getting used to basically backpacking vs traditional hiking. But you’ll eventually get the hang of it and you’ll both gain so much from it. Kids want to be outside and so do you! They are not stopping us from having adventures, we are stopping ourselves. I want you to have the support I didn’t. I want you to know you have a resource. When people say it will be too hard for you, what they actually mean is that it’s too hard for them. Don’t let other peoples limitations they’ve placed on themselves become your limitations. If you don’t want to wait for your kids to grow before you satiate your need for adventures then get them outside. It doesn’t matter in what capacity. If that means a light walk in the woods w the toddler setting the pace or a long ascent w a child on your back, I’d consider both good day. Moral of the story, you are capable of leading an adventurous life w a little. I believe in you. #chaseyourgoat #optoutside #uintas #uintamountains #highuintas #hikingmomma #lifeelevated
