David Bowie - Blackstar
The little man has been obsessed with the song Blackstar all of this week (should I be worried? That's one hell of an earworm!), and we have gone down a Wikipedia rabbit hole looking into the symbology and meaning of the lyrics of that track and the album as a whole.
Blackstar is arguably the greatest deliberate final act of any artist's career, and Bowie seemingly orchestrated his exit from this world as much as any other aspect of his life. The lyrics, the music videos and the imagery all pointed towards a man who knew his time was finite, yet used that time to blow our minds!
This is a staggering piece of work from Bowie, and history will judge this album as a final masterpiece from a unique legend of popular culture.
With all the Christmas music about (which I do love, in moderation) Blackstar is a perfect palate cleanser.

Patti Smith Group - Radio Ethiopia (1976)
Really looking forward to finally see her live next year. 👍

Huge original checked off the waitlist! This a true Mono first pressing of The Seeds self titled debut from 1966. To my ears this is a pillar of garage rock start to finish. One of the most rocking and frantic albums of the time. Fronted by Sky Saxon, The Seeds went on to record three more albums and a number of 45s, all are essential listens (except their “blues” album). You can tell this is a first press by different colored font on the name and no classic hype sticker that’s featured in almost every pressing after. So happy to be playing this at max volume! Thanks @gatorsrecords
for the hookup!

Black Sabbath - 13 (2013).
with Sabbath‘s final studio album. Is it really already five years old!? How time flies! Bought the shirt at their final German show, January 2017, Cologne. What an epic performance that was - they really set high standards for any metal band that is and will be - standards that sadly will never be reached again. Sounds pretty pessimistic, I know. ;) There are a lot of great, talented young bands out there, but all these old heroes just won’t be reached again. But maybe, who knows, one day something totally new will come up...buuut...let’s quit the philosophical talk, and get back to the record we‘re here for.
„13“ is a strong record, a worthy closer for an amazing career that brought us so many outstanding, timeless records over the decades. Tony Iommi is one of my favourite guitar players of all - he just has to start a riff and without knowing the song, you recognise him immediately! Fave songs here: „God is dead?“, „Age Of Reason“, „Live Forever“ & „Dear Father“. What’s your opinion on „13“? And who is your favourite „younger“ metal band - any recommendations? Let me know! :) #blacksabbath #13 #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcollectionpost #vinylcommunity #vinyligclub #instavinyl #vinylgram #vinyloftheday #vinyllovers #vinylgeek #vinyljunkie #vinyladdict #vinylporn #recordcollector #vinylsecretsociety #bandshirt #merch #metalgirls #heavymetal #nowspinning #onmyturntable #vinylblog

Cardi B - Invasion Of Privacy (2018)
When the year started and this dropped I didn't expect to listen to it, let alone appreciate it. I've never even purchased a Nicki album and I thought I had far more respect for her as an artist than I ever would Cardi but the difference almost a year makes is crazy. Label this what you want, I listen to all genres and all I know is, this is some really good music 👏🏼 #cardib #vinyl #vinyljunkie #vinyligclub #vinyladdict #invasionofprivacy
One Eleven Heavy - Everything’s Better
This belongs on your lists.
A bit of a swerveball - Harry Toddler with Dem a Carry Man Name.
I went through a phase a couple of years ago when I would wander up to Camden to the same record shop which just sold reggae, dub, dancehall. The guy started to remember me as I was looking for Patois vocals, and this is one he pulled out for me. A quick google search of Harry Toddler pull up an article in the Jamaica Star that ‘pigs used to rob Harry Toddler’. I hope he’s okay. Swipe right for a taste, a lot of fun.

The Specials are a 2-tone ska band from Coventry UK, formed in 1977 and initially active until 1984, with multiple brief reformations since then.
The Specials are single-handedly responsible for the entire second-wave ska revival and the British 2-tone/ rude boy thing. They were incredibly appealing to me back in the early 90’s when the third wave of ska bands in the US was churning out stuff like Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish. Older kids in high school liked The Specials and The Selecter, so I checked them out when I was about 14 and fell in love with this first self-titled record, released in 1979 on Two-Tone Records in the UK and Chrysalis Records everywhere else. The album was also produced by Elvis Costello, which was a another artist I’d grown up with.
The Specials were great to me because they were equal parts goofy, fun, political, and melancholy. Some of my favorite ska songs period are on this record, including their cover of Dandy Livingstone’s “A Message To You Rudy,” “Doesn’t Make It Alright,” “(Dawning Of A) New Era,” and “You’re Wondering Now.”
This album will always play an important role in the evolution of my musical tastes at a young age; The Specials led to discovering real dance-hall music, 50’s and 60’s Jamaican ska, roots reggae, and dub.
I found this US/Chrysalis pressing @streetlightrecords
in San Jose CA in 1998 or so.
