Punjab, the ‘Land of five rivers’ is blessed with Jandiala Guru which is a home to a skillful community of Thatheras. The community is popular for traditional craft of utensil making using copper, brass and copper. The craftform dates back to 1883 and had 500 families on board, over time it reduced to 11.
ENACTUS SRCC understood the significance of such a craftform for the nation. These Thatheras mould vessels which are carriers of hope, emotions and love. After the continuous efforts towards the revival of the craftform, there has been an increase in the number of Thatheras involved. Not only that, the art of the Thatheras of Jandiala Guru has made its way to the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
