Why hello there, little fella 👋 We spotted this guy plus a few of his turtle friends at our lakeside accommodations in Jervis Bay. I think the people before us must have fed him as he was staring at us expectantly... but he wasn't getting any food scraps this time around! It's important to remember that feeding wild animals, no matter how cute they are, encourages them to be reliant on humans which is bad for a variety of reasons. Don't feed the wildlife! They are perfectly capable of fending for themselves 🐢
There is something particularly special about dawn in January by the sea 🖤

Australia Day is just around the corner and here in the Byron region, there’s plenty of quirky things to do to mark the occasion – that’s if you can pull yourself away from the beach!
We've got a full list on FB and the website, but here's a few to consider.
- Hotel Brunswick is holding their annual prawn peeling contest with heats from 1pm and music to follow.
- At Ocean Shores the Community Association a mullet throwing championship. Yep! And no, they’re not actual fish!
- You could join in the annual Byron Board Paddle, and make your way from Wategos to Main Beach on your board or SUP.
- Cherry Street Sports Club in Ballina has a full line-up of food trucks, breweries and music planned for the day. They’ve even got a pie eating competition if you’re game.
- For some retro-cool over long-weekend, you might want to catch put aside Friday night, when Daryl Braithwaite plays at the Beach Hotel. An iconic pub and an iconic singer!
So many options, so little time!
Big smiles getting ready for the long weekend! 😄 We will be open on Saturday 11:30-9pm! ☀️ Come see us for something fresh!🌿

Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away. –Sarah Kay .
