Hey guys today im sharing part 1 of a 3 part series on pre-throwing warmup ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This routine is what I am currently using before I even think about picking up a plyocare ball or baseball ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PART 1: BODY PREP ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To begin properly prepping my body for movement I go through some soft tissue work with the lacrosse ball and foam roller. This kind of soft tissue work is not entirely backed by science and from what I can gather there is no real long-term benefits to it So why do I use it? ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It serves as a good transition into training. It allows me to clear my mind and chill out while getting focused on what Im going to do that training session ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Next I get into some CARs (Controlled Articular Rotations) - these help warm up the joints and establish the range of motion for that day. Term 2 Week 2 of the BLTC Development Plan! Here are some of the Physical Warm Ups, which the Mini Players and the 11-18 development group participated in throughout the weekend! The Mini Group played Pac-Man and “The Circle Of Life” as their warm ups ( they had to run and collect a ball at a time from one of the other players racket , the player with the most at the end was the winner!) some pretended they were in the lion king! The 11-18 Development group were looking at Explosive Movement with the Air Squat, Jump Squat And Squataroo. They then looked at High Intensity Footwork drills focusing on fast feet, including jumping straight cross the line, side to side movements and side centre side with their feet. The group finished with Strong Core exercises including Side Planks and Up Downs. Many thanks for Essential Tennis for inspiring this part of the session. The Physical sessions throughout the weekend also looked at Constraint Led Fitness Drills - targeting and promoting sidesteps. To say that I'm pretty proud of my warm-ups today would be an understatement 😂 I got back to these drills after over a month and was expecting my whole arm control to be out of whack. Well, surprise surprise! When I put my pen to paper and started the oval movements, I was pleasantly surprised and proud that my body had remembered what I had struggled so hard to teach. THIS is what muscle memory is, and this is what it does. On another note, always make it a point to warmup your arm, wrist and hand muscles before you begin practicing calligraphy. I make it a point to warm-up for AT LEAST 20 minutes. If I'm not short on time, then I've been known to do these drills for two hours a day as well!
