Enjoyed half a melon w/lime & mint for dinner last night, and am about to savor this for breakfast. So refreshing, hydrating, and easy to digest! Wrestled with a stomach bug this past week; had only coconut water, soup & dry toast. Lost 5 lbs and have some serious muscle fatigue since I’ve been out of the gym. Even walking Cali was tough. Then I realized the lesson behind this temporary illness.
I’ve been taking my health for granted. Cancer and heart disease were prevalent in my family. Both Mom and Dad and my oldest brother succumbed to them. Even my sister found a mass recently that required a biopsy and surgery. (It was benign and she’s doing great.) Yet here I am: biking, free-diving, hitting the gym every other day, mowing the lawn, and feeling unencumbered by any health limitations. Then suddenly, I’m knocked off my feet during the busiest ten days I’ve had all year. What a wake-up call!
There are those who are blessed with good health; others, with an illness, where vibrancy and a ‘normal’ day of activity are never taken for granted. Those persevering right now, pushing forward daily to find answers, are the ones who motivate others to do the same. Determination to regain vitality strengthens them in ways being pain free never could. They encourage others to maintain faith in God’s plan for their journey, to find gratitude for incremental improvements, and to keep going. They build communities where they freely share their tough experiences, as well as their recoveries and victories. They inspire hope.
I haven’t been able to relate. I was holding myself separate from those who struggle with their health, even after seeing my family go through so many losses. Pure ego blocked my view of Truth. Joni Mitchell sang: “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.” How profound. And once again I’m reminded there is no separation between us... we are ALL one collective energy of Divine Love manifested in different physical forms, here to show compassion to every One. Very grateful for this lesson. 🙏🏼
