Why is everyone talking about finishing 2018 strong? Does anyone else not resonate with this at all? ⠀
I have spent so much time this last month setting 2019 goals and plans and on-boarding new 2019 clients that I feel like I’m already in 2019 and I’m so excited about it! I I just got off a great call with my #mastermind
group all about vision boarding for 2019.⠀
So instead of telling myself to finish 2018 strong I have been telling myself to START 2019 STRONG... and that starts now!! 💪🏻⠀
Does this resonate more with anyone else? Have you done a vision board or goal planning yet for 2019? 🥳🙌🏻

Avocado, I've always cared tho... @gebelia
Took a page out of the @jasonfallas
ux survival guide, today's practice was simple I picked a designer with a different style than me, in this case the extremely talented @uixninja
, and tried to replicate their style. I love the colors and design elements that uixninja uses and wanted to understand how it works. It was a fun practice and definitely helped me see a different vision for style.
Just thought I’d share something with you guys for a second. If you’re a brand & you’re seeking to get your website professionally done, here’s the top five things you should know/should have when you begin. — feel free to screenshot to save for later!

🌲 DECEMBER ⛄ G I V E A W A Y🎅
Look at me proudly wearing this T-shirt! I love how all programming languages are processed in this CODE 😍 #nerdalert
The nice thing is: we give away 5 of these shirts (thank you @ibm
) You have to do a little favor for that. Namely:
1. Go to the IBM Cloud via the link in my bio
2. 'Create an account' and take a picture with your IBM account name clearly visible (slide photo aside for an example how to do it)
3. Place the photo on your own Instagram channel and tag @techgirlnl
in the photo
Bonus step: let us know which size shirt you would like to receive. 🎅 That's it! On Christmas Day 25 December we choose & announce 5 winners via this Instagram channel. Good luck‼
I’ll start making this kind of posts ✋🏻. If the code gets to large to show I’ll let it on my codepen profile. I thought it’ll be a good idea to start with this button effect using pseudo elements 💬
The best thing (biz wise) about 2018: working less and making more. That’s right, the entrepreneur holy grail!
I took 2 months off over the summer with my kids and have taken most of December off.
I worked on less projects this year and it was so much less hectic to juggle. Less work, less clients and more money.
So how’d it happen?
I raised my rates and stepped up my online game.
Raising your rates is easy. I can raise my rates all I want, but people need to buy them!
Enter: rebrand, redesign and new (super freakin’ awesome!) service. Yeah, big time up-level.
To raise your rates, you’ve gotta raise your game, too.
I designed a whole new fun look and feel for Launch Party to complement the new signature service: a brand-new website in 4 weeks, start to finish.
Next year, I’m aiming for more of the same.
How about you? Do you want to raise your rates in 2019? Work less and make more? 🤩

It may come as a surprise to many of the people who know me, but I’m not a big fan of tomatoes 🍅 Ridiculous, I know, but I hope we can move past it when I talk about how much I love using them for other purposes.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re perfection in pizza or spaghetti or used as a dip for fries or tater tots. Mmm, tater tots 🤤 I also use them extensively as a way to track time and stay focused. There’s this thing called the Pomodoro Technique. It was created in the ‘80s by a go-go ‘80s man to help him do his work without getting caught in the bottomless trap of distractions around him.
Today, I’m taking a deep, tomato-ey dive into how to use the Pomodoro Technique in your own life. So many of us think that we can multitask our way through our days. Perhaps you’ve found that multitasking only makes you feel more stressed and rushed. The Pomodoro Technique is here to help you create a productive life of less stress and more happiness.

Anatomy of a Website continues this week with the Services page. If you are in a service-based business, this is one of your most important pages. This is your opportunity to tell potential clients what you can do for them and help them determine whether working with you will be a good fit.
Without further ado, the basics:
There’s this saying related to creating educational presentations that goes “tell them what you’re going to tell them, tell them, now tell them what you told them”, and I think this fits really nicely as a framework for thinking about the Services page. Here’s what I mean.
✔️First, you should start out with a brief overview of your services- at a high level, what do you offer?
✔️Next, take a deep dive. Provide all of the details about your services offered that a potential client would want to know. Anticipate their questions and answer them. People leave when they get frustrated, so don’t let them get frustrated.
✔️Finally, close out your services page with a quick summary that serves as a call to action. Summarize AND tell them the next step (i.e. “Let us take care of your lawn trimming needs. Contact us for a quote.”)
Easy right? Here are some tips to make it great:
• Be clear about what you do. Pretend the person reading knows nothing about you/your business. Make it easy for them to figure out exactly what you do, what you can offer, and how it could be of benefit to them.
• Keep it simple and straightforward. Rather than large chunks of text, consider breaking things into bullets, numbered lists, or using icons to differentiate separate “steps” or types of service.
• Similarly, if you have multiple service offerings, clearly separate these in a way that would make sense to a potential client. Keep your page organized so that people can clearly find the service they are looking for and learn more about it.
• Focus on the benefit to your client!!! This should be less “we are so great because XYZ” and more “here’s how we can help you” or “your business will benefit from”.
