So here it goes, I can officially say I am a perfectionist! This raises the question whether or not that's a good or a bad thing?! How does it affect me in my day to day living you may wonder.... Well I can't handle things being half done or not properly done. However I had to learn to adjust my thinking as my daughter Eliana enjoys helping me with EVERYTHING, testing my perfectionism on a daily basis. I sometimes have to remind myself to not put my high expectation onto others, which in the past has led to disappointment and confusion. I now remind myself we are all individuals and there are different ways of doing things whilst reaching the same goals. I can give myself a hard time putting too much pressure on myself, leading to self-doubt and anxiety. On the plus side my perfectionism makes me a very passionate, goal driven individual which is great for getting things accomplished in the most efficient way. The key for me is to keep the balance as too much perfectionism can be detrimental to our health. Research has shown perfectionism can lead to added stress and therefore increase chances of burnout. Additionally there are links to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, fatigue and even early mortality. I once went through a period where I thought if I just drank protein powder and went to the gym I would lose weight. I didnโ€™t change anything about my diet, I added a bit of exercise but on top of that I also added additional calories in the form of my protein shake. My workouts at the time probably werenโ€™t even burning the whey calories I was cluelessly choking down (protein powder has come a long way in 10 years). โ € โ € All diets will work when you create a calorie deficit. A calorie deficit is a state in which you burn more calories than you consume. But eating the right amounts of certain foods makes a huge difference in how effectively we lose the weight and how we keep it off. But knowing how much can be hard to know!โ € โ € So Iโ€™ve talked about some of the things I did reeeeally wrong with my diet , Iโ€™ve talked about what my diet looks like now and now I am going to give you exactly what my exercise and nutrition looked like when I really jump started my weight loss journey. At what point do you decide maybe your method isnโ€™t working? I remember when I first came across flexible dieting and reverse dieting; the idea of learning to make the foods you love fit into your diet and, to eat quite a bit more calories (including carbs) to gain muscle. I thought Bullshit! It took me a few weeks of solid researching to be comfortable giving it a go. _____________________ It was hard to take the plunge into something new when for years and years I had believed that I needed to watch my diet and do lots of cardio to stay lean. I found a way, designed myself a system so that I could track all my progress and experiment with this new concept. The result? _____________________ Iโ€™m having more fun and less stress thinking and worrying about every bite of food and making sure I get my workout in to โ€œburn offโ€ those excess calories. Ever wonder whatโ€™s most important to stick to nutrition wise when it comes to reaching a fitness goal? . . I want to note that I didn't come up with this concept (1st I believe is by @helms3dmj )but I made this image to hopefully help show what's most & least important for you to follow nutrition wise in order to stay on track with your goals! . . The bottom of the pyramid (notice it's the largest part) is the MOST important part nutrition wise for you to staying on track with macros! Hitting calories, protein, & getting in enough water to help with digesting & shuffling nutrients into the cells that will optimize muscle growth & fat burn๐Ÿ’ช . . 2nd most important is hitting carb, fat, & fiber goals. Iโ€™ve found interchanging carbs & fats based on preference is fine if it helps keep one consistent with their overall calorie goal. And the important thing about fiber is that it also helps with keeping us satiated & also digesting what we're eating. . . 3rd most important thing is micronutrients which can be good to look at if we're not feeling our best & maybe need to adjust getting in more of a certain micro to help with more hormonal balance. (Note: this is levels of importance for fitness goals but micros are VERY important for health!) . . 4th most important thing is nutrient timing, this can be good to look at if hunger & digestion are off or if you're having trouble feeling fueled or recovering from workouts. . . The least important thing is supplements, because in my opinion they are a waste of money when you can get nutrients from food. I don't really consider protein powder a supp as it has calories so I consider it a food. But I don't recommend pre-workouts if you can just have coffee or BCAAs if you all are getting in adequate amounts of protein elsewhere. The only time I will recommend supps is if everything is on point (macros, micros, workouts, etc.) & someone is not progressing, this may mean they need to supplement with something that helps with stress or digestion to get the body optimal for fat loss. . . And know while yes, it's optimal to these all in place; if focusing on all of them is too stressful then just start with the bottom & moveโฌ†๏ธ

Super stoked that over the holidays I somehow haven't gained weight but I've maintained and toned! Now to be transparent..... I still have moments where my mindset is far from positive. Here's the secret to losing weight, getting fit, and having the body of your dreams. Are you ready for it? Do you think you could do it, even if it means you're not going to have overnight results? . The upper chest is usually the most underdeveloped portion of the chest for most guys, and itโ€™s hard to develop with just the standard incline dumbbell bench press that everyone does. So, I thought Iโ€™d share one of my favorite upper chest exercises: I call it the Pinch Press! _____________________ This exercise replaces the dumbbells from your standard incline bench press with a plate (I use a 45lb plate but use whatever weight works for you!). To perform this movement, first situate yourself on the bench with the plate in between your hands as shown. Donโ€™t grip the plate with your fingers, rather push your hands together using your palms to keep the weight in place. Curiosity tells you to move forward, but fear says go back! I used to be so low. I felt low. I didn't think that I deserved anything and it showed in my actions. It showed in my words as well, because it was in my thoughts at all times. I was always afraid and each day that I continued to fear, new fears popped up out of nowhere. I wanted so much to move forward, to try for something else, but the doubt, the fear of trying and of the unknown kept me back. I finally got tired of being afraid and of being without. I spent so many years saying no to myself that now I'll do just about anything to get the job done that doesn't require hurting anyone or myself, that is. I'll try anything, invest in pretty much anything that I feel will work and do it for as long as I need to. I'll read just about anything to increase my knowledge, because when I work on myself, my mind, my body and my spirit, it radiates around me creating a beautiful world that honestly always existed but my mindset kept it hidden. So yes, what may seem weird to you, is absolutely perfect to me. What may seem stupid to you, is a blessing to me. What may seem as a waist of time to you, is everything to me, because it's creating a better world for myself and my family. When you're so used to saying no to life or the universe, it hears you, it listens and responds accordingly to what you say, leaving you with exactly what you placed in it.
