Birthday prep has begun 🎈 still not sure how my baby is one next month 😱. I’ve been gradually purchasing his presents for the past few months to spread the costs. When Tom and I made the decision that I wasn’t going to return to work (for now) we knew we’d have to be frugal and save wherever possible. Dropping my wage means we are a lot poorer, but for me personally I wanted the extra time with Arlo. Everyone is different and I respect everyone’s decision to stay at home or return to work as long as it’s the right choice for you and your family. .
But anyway. Let’s talk presents. For his first birthday I’ve bought 90% second hand. Car boots, charity shops and buy sell swap sites are my best friends! It’s all in immaculate condition and I’ve spent a good 80%+ less than I would have if I were to buy new. So now the job of sterilising everything begins so I can be super organised and start wrapping. .
The point of this post don’t ever feel ashamed buying second hand. I’ve spoken to a few people who have said they could never gift their babies second hand and it all has to be brand new. If you have the money to buy everything brand new and that’s what you want to do then that’s fine. For us we’d rather save the money and spend it elsewhere (on his fun birthday day out and little birthday gathering for example!) And for other people I know they just can’t afford new toys. Your baby won’t know any different. Arlo has been affectionately nicknamed “the hand me down baby” because my sister just throws so much stuff at us (🙌🏻🙌🏻 to having older cousins.) Would I like to buy everything brand new, maybe, but I’m happy that he’s not missing out on a thing and we save a few pennies. .

Slow and steady wins the race! 🐢 🐇 .
I have been slowwwwwly chipping away at my weight sine January, I don’t have masses to lose but I have a lot of body fat (losing this is the main goal). I’ve been having most weekends pretty much eating what I wanted then spending the week catching up to where I was and it became frustrating but this week I’ve been eating even more calories daily and somehow got to a new low! Super chuffed with this and I can finally say that I’ve lost a stone! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
