This is a lovely shared awareness campaign especially for Christmas, not my words but we all must be mindful of how loneliness effects people all year round but how much it is heightened at Christmas. I'm truly blessed to have to correct friendships in my support circle who understand the trauma we've been through and who have been an amazing support, bringing flowers to our table and laughter to our house. This Christmas especially I am extra grateful and wiser about self care and doing what's right for your higher self. Love Light and Blessings D 💕 "I tried to begin to put up the tree today and couldn't get the strength mentally to do it. I changed the curtains and began to clear away the area for the tree but I just couldn't do it. After the curtains were put up and the star lights hung - I stopped in my tracks and sat down and just went down memory lane...All I can say is it wasn't pretty. I think I cried for over an hour with memories of what this time used to be for me and how it was filled with such love and anticipation - and now it brings back memories of the reality of emptiness and sadness. So I would like to remind you that there are people for whatever reason are not looking forward to Christmas. Some people are not surrounded by large wonderful families. Some of us have problems during the holidays and are overcome with great sadness when we remember the loved ones who are not with us any longer." For many it is their first Christmas without a particular loved one and many others lost loved ones at Christmas. And, many people have no one to spend these times with and are besieged by loneliness. We all need caring, loving thoughts right now. Give a moment of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, worries of any kind and just need to know that someone cares. The suicide rate for veterinarians is almost four times higher than the general population across Australia, the UK, US, New Zealand and Canada. The effects of working long hours, performing euthanasia on animals, emotional pressure, financial issues, unrealistic expectations, and dealing with distressed clients places considerable stress on both the vet themselves and their families at home. Failure to cope with such stress upsets mental wellbeing and can lead to serious emotional, physical, and behavioural issues. For some it leads to death. Self-awareness is the foundation of health. 🧘‍♂️ Without it, we cannot change negative behavioural patterns or habitual tendencies that keep us separate from ourselves and each other. I find it amazing that our bodies remember EVERYTHING. The body is a reservior of emotions and memories that have been stored since we were old enough to develop tension. We can spend years trying to intellectualise how we feel, but our bodies are truthful. Until we start to shift this repressed feeling and stored tension through movement, we cannot let it go, and it becomes a barrier between us and the world. 🚧 Our bodies are said to be a temple of the Holy spirit, and we are called by God to take care of and honour them. 🙏🧘‍♀️✨ #bodyprayer #mindfulmovement

This week we will be reflecting back upon the psychological treatments covered throughout the year. Today we’re going to be looking back at the first two psychological treatments we covered: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Depression and EMDR for Anxiety. For a greater depth of information on these therapies, scroll down to the original posts! _____ Cognitive Behavioural Therapy _____ CBT developed around the notion that our thoughts, our feelings, and our behaviours can all influence one another. CBT is effective for depression as it tackles two key areas within the ‘thoughts-feelings-behaviours’ cycle. CBT will challenge an individual’s negative cognitive bias by examining this bias against logical or evidence based thinking alongside challenging depressive behaviours by setting weekly behavioural based tasks or goals for individuals to achieve. It is important for an individual to become aware of how they have got to how they’re feeling, so CBT therapists may have you complete a ‘Case Formulation’ which has five components: 1) The Presenting Problem: What exactly is the issue? 2) Predisposing Factors: What could have made the individual vulnerable to developing the presenting problem? 3) Precipitating Problems: What triggered the issue? 4) Perpetuating Factors: What behaviours maintain the issue? 5) Protective Factors: What could be utilised as a potential strength to help manage the issue? _____ EMDR _____ EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing and was developed by Francine Shapiro. The desensitisation and reprocessing elements of EMDR are achieved through the bilateral stimulation of the brain which can be created through any stimuli (visual, auditory, or tactile) which occurs in a rhythmic left-right pattern. EMDR is effective for anxieties as it produces four main effects: 1. A relaxation effect including decreased physiological arousal. 2. Increased attentional flexibility (meaning that our thoughts become less ‘stuck’ on what was bothering us) 3. Distancing effect (making problems seem smaller and further away) 4. Decreased worry EMDR is delivered in an 8 step protocol and often includes a safe base, due to the nature of the work

Yoga isn't meant to excite you - loud music, fast pace and complicated sequencing. Nor is yoga meant to sedate you - too restorative, no challenge or like “supervised sleeping”. Yoga is meant to AWAKEN you. We find this by taking what is called in Buddhism ‘The Middle Path’. It requires you to be not too tight and not too lose and to have plenty of Sthira and Sukha - steadiness and ease. In retrospect, I have come to realise that a lot of my aggression, frustration and defensiveness was exacerbated by my "exciting" yoga practice. Now with a dedicated yin and meditation practice, I’ve noticed myself a lot calmer, less quick to react and far more accepting. YIN aims to find and cultivate The Middle Path - the place between the extremes of sensual indulgence.
