I’ve been fortunate to visit this area of Mexico more than half a dozen times, for both work and pleasure. It has a special place in my heart - the waves are wild, the sunsets are gorgeous, and the tacos are on point!
On my last trip down in March I had a free day before the yoga retreat I was photographing began, and my goal was to head to a beach I’d never seen before. With some advice from a great friend, an adventure day it became!
Taking taxis in most cities is quite expensive, so I almost always opt for taking plublic transit. I do this for two reasons: one to save a little money, but more importantly because the people watching can be fantastic, and it’s fun to do as the locals do! Two city busses, a shared shuttle van and a long stroll down a jungle path later, and we had arrived. The day was hot and the journey was long but a light breeze hit my face just as the path opened up and revealed one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen, barely anyone else in sight. This view took my breath away as the midday sun warmed my skin. It’s moments like these that feel so surreal, like I’m walking through a dream and could wake up at any moment. Sometimes I like to just sit there in silence, listening to the waves crash and taking in every little detail of a place, watching the way the light plays along its surface, saving these memories in my own little internal photo bank. And then, of course, I’ll snap a few photos.
I had my film camera with me this day with only a few shots to spare on the roll. This was one of the first I took, and is one of my favorites. That view, the memories of dancing in the sand under the afternoon sun, sneaking passed a guard taking a siesta, the laughter, the ceviche and margaritas that followed - all of those memories wrapped up in a single image. It was a beautiful day. 💫 #thesewildbeautifuladventures
