Bearded Villains NTX would like to thank Applebee’s for partnering with us on this event, and would like to give a special thanks to @adro02 for designing this awesome flyer. Bring positive vibes and smiles as we come together to show support for Mia and her family.
Quote 1/2. “Since this was my first combat mission, I was assigned 1st LT William W. Brown, who was co-pilot from pilot Samuel Tyler’s crew and Arthur Shanafelt, my co-pilot, flew as co-pilot on the Tyler crew. As we reached our bombing altitude of 26,500 feet we were informed that target weather had deteriorated and the target was covered by 10/10s cloud cover and that bombing would be conducted by radar. Meager flack was expected in the target area. The number 2 engine began to surge, this occurred several minutes prior to the turn on to the bomb run, called the Initial Point (IP). These gyrations in speed became unpredictable and difficult to control which made it difficult to maintain our slot and altitude in the formation. It took one pilot to continually manipulate the engine controls. At this time my pilot became scared and was having difficulty in maintaining formation position. He said he thought we should abort the mission. My reply was, ‘No, let’s see if we can’t manage this situation since we were so close to the target.’ He replied, ‘Okay, but I don’t know how to fly on three engines.’”—CPT Sam Smith (Army Air Corps, WWII Veteran) FULL LINK IN BIO

When I tell you that this girl right here saved me in a major way by becoming my best friend at a time in my life when there was nothing but change happening!! (For those who don't already know) My mom remarried, I suddenly had 3 new brothers, we packed up and moved out to the boonies to a place called El Paso Natural Gas Plant Keystone Field..or Mainline I can't remember. Regardless.. it consisted of a gas plant (google that if you need a visual) one main street with a row of camp houses on either side, a coupld of playgrounds, some sewer hills, miles of mesquite bushes and sandhills as far as the eye could see, a buttload of boys runnin a round, and just one girl. She was just one year older than me. Her name was Shona Allen. My saving grace. We got into some trouble together out there y'all, but we formed a major friendship that has lasted to this day! I love you June Bug!!! 😘😘💗💗 Thank you for saving me!!! I wouldn't take the world for that time in my life! What an adventure!!! •
