.*long-ish post alert*.
I normally don’t share very personal things on social media. And those who know me well know that it’s hard for me to even do that in person with people I know. But I feel like I’m supposed to share this snippet of life with you!
On our way home from small group last night, Andy and I were talking about tough conversations — how to have really hard discussions and leave feeling heard and like there’s been some sort of resolution. As we were talking, Andy said that something he likes about our tough conversations is that when we feel like things are escalating, we’ll often pause and hug — take a “hug break,” if you will. 🤗 Even though they’re not always as smiley as the one pictured here, taking that moment and pausing together helps us to refocus the conversation and reminds us that what we’re talking about is secondary — the person standing in front of us is first.
I’m not really sure why I felt like I should share that with you guys, but I hope it encourages you in some way.
Do you have any tips for navigating tough discussions? Leave ‘em below! You never know — it might help somebody else ☺️
