Note: No edits or filters! These blurry and unclear photos were taken without a tripod, and with careful caution due to the mountain's hazards. As a hobbyist of photography, I still have a lot to learn and improve. Yes, it's my first time to play with the manual settings in the dark/before sunrise. I guess it's a nice progress? To more experiments this year!
I spent the whole weekend chasing sunrises in the mountains. Although the trails weren't verily arduous, my poor eyesight belittled me. As we started our trek in Mt. Maculot to catch the sunrise on top of the rockies, we were greeted by a horizon of city lights. For Mt. Batulao, the photos were unexpected. The stars danced with the silhouette of the mountain so I played with my manual settings to try capturing it. Believe it or not, I squealed when I was able to capture these on top of a ridge without the assistance of a tripod. Shoutout to my friend who assisted me in the dark and reminded me of the basic ISO settings! (I completely forgot HAHA) -
To observe a sunset is majestic, and to feel its phase is tender. Regardless of how dreamy my sunset ideals are, I promised myself that I'll be pursuing sunrises this year. Surprisingly, my decision surpassed my expectations and it even opened my soul to an unforeseen part of myself — I am more of a dawning or sunrise spirit. Sunsets uplift that romantic and melancholically poetic side of me, but sunrises enliven every hopeful facet of both my mind and body. It's somewhat risky to climb mountains early in the morning and also, slothful to wake up early to exercise or have a smooth walk before the sunrise. However, it's one of the most rewarding and healthiest decision one can make. Sunrises impel me to move forward even if my heart still carries yesterday's heartbreak and regrets. It inspires my mind to think that each day is the first day of my life, I could start and feel anew and that I am in control of my beginnings. It's how the dark sky turns luminous when the sun finally shows up that ruminates everything. After all, sunsets and sunrises are just one of the universe's abysmal ways of conversing with our souls. #astrophotography #wheninbatangas
